Will mains hook-up charge the batteries or merely power the 240v stuff?

Hi Folks. Had a loose/worn fanbelt on my '79 T3 Westfalia and both batteries went totally flat. Got it all sorted and vehicle battery is charging fine but the 85 Ah leisure battery is not giving much power unless the engine is running. This battery is brand new and the alternator is BIG so no worrie...

Yep.

2nd battery under driver's seat for kitchen block/lights/stereo etc.

It charges up when engine is running but nothing when on 240v hook-up.

On a Westy should the 2nd/Leisure battery be charged up when on mains hookup?

It charges ok from the alternator but nothing on 240v.
