Turned out to be the exciter wire was broken just before the terminal, must've pulled it removing alternator. May need to clean up connections as voltage when running is about 14.5ish at the alternator but about 14 at the battery dropping with lights etc on. Also the alternator terminal nut gets ver...

Thanks yes there is a thin blue wire connected close to the main terminal but I left that connected so will check if there's a break near the terminal later

Alternator problem
Not sure wether my alternator has packed up .. I fitted a new water pump to my 1.9 td a week or so ago so had to remove the alternator for access. Since then the dash charge light dosent come on at all. Battery drained after a while so charged it and checked voltage which is about 12.5 running or no...

Thanks i chipped/scraped away as much of the 'iron oxide' as poss (not easy around the back using mirror/torch /chisel) anyway not as bad as i thought although metal is not quite as thick as it used to be! couple of coats of aquasteel and fitted the new wishbones.

After a lot of squeeking from front suspension, decided to replace upper wishbone bushes. After removing the wishbones, noticed quit a bit of corrosion around where the 'sleeve' is mounted which the long bolt passes through. Has anyone else had this problem or is there a 'repair' panel available? ha...

i dont think its pinion/bearing wear as there was no noise from the box or problems with 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th the rest of the way home

just finished fitting a propex 2000 heater under the bench seat , my leisure battery is also under there and was wondering if this was safe, as I have read that these batteries give off some gasses when charging.

thanks for the info., will be putting a new clutch in soon so will eliminate that possibility, could be the synchroniser thing.. the clack clack is more of a 'dull' clackity clack. If it is this will it cause major damage if left? The AAZ is all AAZ as it was a 1.6n/a previously apart from a jx airb...

its an AAZ engine, Aidan with the 1.6D clutch and 5 speed box from a 1.6TD ( 094? ) if its the release bearing, wouldn't it more likely happen with clutch pressed?
