Rob, I would say there is a fault on the circuit you removed the fuse from. The bulb only flashes once because the fault is quite small (high resistance), that is why the battery has a slow drain. If the bulb stayed on the fault would be large (low resistance) and the battery would drain much quicke...

Would strongly sugest you fit an inline fuse if you go down this line, loads of current direct off the battery!

Thanks for both your replys and the advice given. I have another brake pipe that looks a bit suspect so I am going to invest in a flaring kit and give it a go myself. Brake pipes
Hi
I need to replace the rear brake pipes from the cylinders to the flexi hoses and thinking of making them up myself. Could anyone advise me on the correct size/type of pipe and fittings. Also best place to purchase these and a flaring kit.
