Re: Painting Transporter badge?
I did mine the cheap way and assuming the metallic lettering is still good. I taped some cloth to my work bench, keeping the cloth taught, and sprayed some solvent on. I then sprayed the badge in satin black plasticoat. I then flipped the badge upside down and wiped the badge along the cloth, thus w...

Re: JK Starter motor differences
Thanks Big Herb. I have a 1985 motor with the ring terminal. It makes sense now why the later starter supercedes the early version.

JK Starter motor differences
For a 1.9 wbx manual Just kampers list two starter motor types dependent on age; the change over is 1986. VW Heritage only list one type from 1986 onwards but state the part number supercedes previous. Brickwerks only list one for the 1.9 wbx manual from 1986. What changed in 1986 and can these late...

Itchy is correct - used by VW to determine TDC. I'm not aware of how we can use it

Re: Temp Gauge... Now reading too Hot
Thats where mine sits too. Bleed the radiator again after a few journeys to be sure. Once all the air is confirmed out there's little you can do to reduce the running temperature - maybe a flush of the radiator (removed from van). I found quite a bit of crud in the radiator and the pipes near it des...

Re: Fuse box mess
I would invest in time and tools. And lots of A4 paper! Start tracing the wires, map them and then systematically start using some proper vw spec terminals. Get rid of all the naff connectors, get everything fused and that should reduce the fire risk. You can get them from polevolt.co.uk. http://www...

Re: Early DG Waterpump difference
Just an update: In never obtained the gasket so resorted to gasket paper and rtv. The thickness of the gasket wasn't an issue as the small hose accounts for an change. I fitted the pump, completed a test run then booked a holiday to Wassenaar in Holland. 24 hrs later we were there - Mrs BM, x3 min B...

Re: Early DG Waterpump difference
Thanks Big Herb. I thought I was missing something!! I've got all my bits ordered now just need the gasket from the thermostat housing to block: 025121127C. Everyone is out of stock. If I knew the thickness I'd fashion one out of gasket paper / Cork.

Re: Early DG Waterpump difference
Thanks folks. I'm still confused. If I have the early coolant system does that mean I have to have an early pump or do I only need the early pump if I have a one piece pulley?
My engine is out of a 1984 van.

Early DG Waterpump difference
The bearings on my water pump are on there way out. I have the early coolant system. Brickwerks and VW Heritage are both out of stock (Febi and Meyle respectively). Just Kampers have a Febi in stock but on their blurb it states that their pulley may have to be purchased too. Any ideas of how I would...

Re: TW 25 1.9 petrol engine cuts out.
It appears the fuel system is good so now look at the ignition system. Soon as it konks out see if you have a spark. You could use an old spark plug rather than removing a fitted one. I had an episode of the engine cutting out when warm, luckily a friend stopped once to assist, there was no spark. W...

Re: Fuel Filter advice.
You haven't said what engibe you have. I had a clogged tank outlet filter when I first got the van. I replaced the tank outlet filter every year and the engine bay filter every two. That seems to have filtered out the tank crap nicely. I used any disposable in line filter - most were 99p so a cheap ...
