Re: shadyboy awning

Shady Boy Brought one direct from US and fitted it to my Westy (Dollar was then about 2 to the pound which made it around £200). As to the wind problems; it came with guy ropes to stop it flying UP and clip on poles to stop it blowing down. It survived the wind and rain from last years Vanfest. The ...

Westy Leisure Battery

First question - am I right in thinking that when you plug in the 240 volt external electric lead you are charging BOTH the engine battery and the leisure battery? Both are normal 72 amp Varta car batteries and are only 18 months old. Second question - my leisure battery is going flat when the campe...

Hammerite Paint- Brake Drums etc

Have just painted the exhaust cover plates, not the exhaust itself, with black Hammerite paint to compliment the Simon Baxter supplied stainless steel exhaust on my 1990 1.6 Diesel and very nice it looks to. Am now thinking of doing the same, painting with black smooth Hammerite paint, the back brak...

Westy Roof Rack Bag

Greetings Am thinking of asking the local sail making company to make me a bag for my 1990 standard roof rack space. Question is has anyone done this? and if so what are best dimensions etc. Would want to have some way of holding bag into the roof rack space (velcro or clips etc) using the roof rack...

Westfalia (1990) Kitchen Drawer

Hi
Have ordered a replacement sink tap and will need to remove the kitchen drawer to fit new tap. Cannot see how to pull the drawer out as there seems to be some sort of STOP arrangement.

Any advise on how to remove the drawer?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. The main message seems to be to buy a standard double sized bed duvet and forget the sleeping bags. Will follow this advise and invest in a snap together 4.5 tog and a 9.5 tog double duvet.

Comfy nights here we come!

Duvet or Sleeping Bag?

We have a Westfalia Atlantic - the rock n roll bed measures 110 one end and 120 the other. Up to now we have used sleeping bags that are 180 wide. We are thinking of going over to a Duvet. Options are single bed width, which are 135, or the next size up, being a double at 200. Does anyone use a Duve...

Thanks for the responses. 1 - Tank could, as you say, be cleaned up and painted. This is "Her Indoors" option - to be truthfull it's a "Don't bother". 2 - Have seen the GOWESTY web site but the tank looks very different to the one under mine. The Gowesty on looks long and very th...

Westfalia Gas Tank

Am concerned about the condition of my 1990 Westy gas tank. There is a more rust on the outside than I would like. Have found a German web site that supplies new replacement tanks (mega dosh - but nothings to good for the Westy). They also supply a replacement (plastic?) cover but they tell I will &...

Wheel Size and Recorded Speed

I own a 1990 Westfalia which, when I bought it, had the wheels changed for 16 inch fancy alloys (was told they were from a Mercedes S type - which sounds and looks impressive). I had the tyres changed for 215/65 R16C. The tyre and wheels are, I think, much bigger than the standard size which leads m...

Diesel Engine Battery Size

Got a reply to my question about battery size advising to stick with standard size battery (present one is 66amp). Have limited options here of either 60amp or 72 amp, so have opted for 72amp. Before I fit it will it be OK or could I be causing some damage by fitting a 72amp battery. Forgive such a ...

Turbo Diesel Engine - Battery Size

I have a 1990 Westfalia with a standard 1.6 Turbo Diesel motor. I need to change the engine battery and assume that the larger the capacity battery the better. At present there is a 65 amp battery which needs to be changed as the old one no longer holds it's charge. What is the largest dimension bat...

Front brake back plate

My local garage has inspected underneath my camper (1990 Westfalia Atlantic) and is about to change the badly corroded brake pipe spltter valve located at the front of the camper between the two front wheels, which seems fair enough, or is it? They also showed me that the front brake back plates are...
