Re: Rear Brakes Binding/Noisy. Scratching my Head!!!!
Fixed! The backplates flex quite a lot and anything that rubs on them makes a horrible groaning noise. In particular it was the pins that hold the shoes in place. I just pushed them from the front, compressing the spring, which gave enough room to lag them in copper grease from the rear of the back ...

Re: Rear Brakes Binding/Noisy. Scratching my Head!!!!
Hello, I was just reading your post on grinding rear drums, can you remember if this only happened during braking? I have the same situation, new everything, including hub bearings, cv joints. But I get a strange grinding noise when applying the brakes and when applying the hand brake on the move. T...

Does anyone know the best way to fit these? Is it just a case of opening them up a bit and squeezing over the A-pillar gutter?
They seem pretty solid so i'm worried about scratching the paint.
Cheers.

What's the deal with 45A/90A alternator brackets?
Hello, is it possible to use the alternator bracket for the 90A, the one with the the tensioner bolt, on a 45A alternator? I'm asking as the belt keeps loosening off on mine and doing my head in. The water pump spins freely, so does the alternator, it has the 10 x 1075 belt (i've tried various bra...

They've just replied via email to say they will post letter shortly.
So expect a 4 or 5 week response time.

Re: Front wheels very hot
Does anyone know what acceptable temperatures might be? I've just given mine a pretty thorough resto after having stored it for 10 years (replaced bearings, discs, calipers, drum and cylinders etc etc). When i first took it out i could feel play in the wheels and i'd been a bit cautious tightening u...

Re: Historic MOT criteria
Has anyone had any success emailing vw at the following address recently? type.approval@vwg.co.uk I messaged them 3 weeks ago but i haven't had anything back. I've had to buy 6 months of vehicle tax in the meantime! The DVLA told me to get a certificate of heritage from the Britsh Motor Museum but ...

Part number STEERING KNUCKLE T25 Early
Hello, does anyone know what the part number is for the early, German made steering knuckle, non ABS, non power steering? I'm trying to find an offside one (drivers side UK). I bought what i was told was an early one but it looks slightly different. Both have the threaded holes but the upright to th...
