What is the history? could someone have fitted a later gearbox? even a 4 speed. Do you have a picture of your gear linkage? How far back on the side of the gearbox does it attach - 5cm from the front end of the gearbox, or about 20cm from the front end? Hi Cobblers, Here is a picture of my gearbox....

I just have a normal 4 speed manual gearbox.

Hi, I'm no expert, far from it, but that looks like the wrong tinware to me. I have a 1980 air-cooled 2.0 and mine lays flat to the bulkhead and seals against that. I've just crawled out from underneath it, setting my cam followers, but could get a picture tomorrow if it would help. Regards Jed Sen...
