engine upgrade to AFN 1.9TDI
Been dipping into posts about engine swaps recently, as I had my venerable (read; smoky, smelly and slow) old JX replaced by an AFN 1.9 TDI and the following just occurred to me: I have updated my insurance with the new details , but my V5 still shows to OLD JX 1.6 Engine number , so I assume I hav...

Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
Sorry about tardy response With the benefit of hindsight, I would not have done anything differently, but it was a bit a a gamble as I went for the 1.9 TDI engine gearbox option with little pre knowledge. As it turns out, the a4 gearbox really suits the van , you don’t really need 5th gear unless yo...

Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
I should add that as I live in the back of beyond avoiding major conurbations should not be so difficult, but I accept it imposes limitatation on your freedom of movement, I would not dream of driving through London anyway, M 8 Glasgow/ Edinburgh is a different matter , but I shall wait and see. Ada...

Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
I did an engine swap recently , after going through the thought processes you describe in your OP. In the end I went for a VAG diesel engine / gearbox from an Audi a4 . Eventually, Driveability, usability and economy were more important (to me) than wobbly unpredictable green lobby politics, after al...

Re: Need new rims
I recently bought 5 steelies from “tuff torque” Decent price and I am happy with them , They don’t have lugs for hub caps , not game changer for me , but maybe for others. I am told (by the men that know) that those spidery looking things from a caddy will fit, the ones that push on over the wheel n...

Re: Original radio wesfalia joker
going by the windows not a factory caravelle
most likely a RHD panel van kitted with the Mosaic stuff at some point
therefore a C, GL when new . I now realise there not have been a radio at all
but, IF T3 of that era were fitted with one , my OP question remains
what type would that be ?

Re: Original radio wesfalia joker
Mr hutch, I believe mine to be a mosaic (or mosaik) if you prefer, very likely a kit as you suggest. I was hoping that someone would remember what radio , or radios, uk market T 3 s came with when new. My own fumbling attempts have narrowed it down to blaupunkt Boston or Bremen or vw branded ones su...

Re: Original radio wesfalia joker
Hmm!
Just googled it , could be a blaupunkt Boston according to some older topics on this very forum. Sorry about that should have searched first , although I notice that there could have been a VW branded radio fitted. Anyway hope some of you can respond with some info

Original radio wesfalia joker
Does anyone know which radio would have been fitted in a 1989 westfalia joker, when they were new? Mine is a RHD uk market one. I am interested in getting my hands on whatever radio it was, to retro fit in my camper. I am guessing it was not an option but would have been fitted as standard? Maybe bl...

Re: Tuff Torque Steels
Well, as I said, happy with mine, they are good enough quality for what I need, depends on what you want to pay. In my experience, paying does not always equal more quality

Re: Tuff Torque Steels
Well, yes (apart from. Merc logo) if the five stud thingies have the correct DTC then I suppose they will fit and stay on via clipping to the wheel nuts, but I am thinking about wheel trims that cover most of the wheel , clipping into the outer rim .those are the ones I have accused o being a bit ch...

Re: Tuff Torque Steels
About my comment on wheel trims, it’s true that they can be had for considerably less than any thing genuine vw, but (imho) they all look a bit naff/chav. Getting a decent looking set is the problem. I wonder if anyone on here know of decent looking set of 15 inch trims, preferably black or at least...

Re: Tuff Torque Steels
Recently bought a set of five , happy with them, but they don’t have lugs for hubcaps, so might be using wheel trims instead
