Re: Why did my fuse box melt?

Cheap nasty fuse ? Often really cheap fuses dont blow when they should , but
Generally dirty ,loose , bad connections get hot , which makes them dirty , loose worse connections and the cycle only gets worse , hotter looser , melted .

you could have a chaffing issue on the wire elsewhere ?

Re: 2.1DJ vs 1.9DG

I changed my DG for a DJ many years ago , ran the DJ on all the DG stuff, apart from plumbing in the oil cooler , didnt change any of the cooling system and it was definitely worth it , better low down grunt and better MPG , smoother and less hard work .  Then I changed vans and bought caravelle wit...

Re: Problems starting - just a click

But have you checked the voltages with the engine running and under load with and without the engine running  Alternator or wiring?      Easy to establish      Take a voltage reading at the alternator ( using the casing as neg )   If you have less than 14v between the alternator output and the casin...

Re: Replaced starter motor, electrical fault

Its a DG , there should be two big (red) wires that go on the same connection( one from the alternator, one from the battery ) and the small trigger wire onto one ( it matter not which ) spade connection

Re: Leisure battery not charging while driving

I think you need someone to help you , unless you have a multimeter and know how to use it , in which case we can guide you through it  without knowing what set up you have its going to be hard to say much more at this stage  normally you would have a alternator triggered relay joining the main van ...

Some were glued , you’ll need a sharp blade and some heat iirc
its doable, but will add time to the already long job

Re: Battery drained after long ride

Petrol WBX have a known weak link in the charge circuit as they age , the main wire from the alternator to the starter motor ( and thus to the battery ) rots internally , goes high resistance and eventually breaks down completely , meaning you have charge coming out of the alternator but not much ( ...

Re: Location of 1.9 DG oil pressure switches

Sounds like they fitted a early DG , which didnt have the second oil pressure sender , which would be located between the water pump pulley and the top of the oil filter housing

Squirt some brake cleaner or WD40 on and around rather vac pipes and inlet manifold , if the revs rise there is a leak
