Re: SP vs DG

If it remember correctly it’s basically a DF with DG heads , I’ve only even seen one , many years ago and it was a non runner we bought for breaking . It may have been messed with , but it’s engine number was SP . Looked like a DG carb on a DG manifold but I seem to remember it had more pipework , m...

Re: water in fuel

The actual filler neck could well have tiny pin holes if it’s old style metal one ( early van up to ‘85) But the main point of issue is nearly always the filler neck seals , top and bottom, mostly the one at the actual filler hole in the wheel arch , perished old rubber lets water through . Top of t...

Re: header tank & expansion/top up/overflow/burp tank not full

If I were you I would just bleed it now, with what is in it , adding just bog standard water to top up , bleed it , run it and make sure your problems are only air before spending time and money flushing and refilling with coolant mix, it’s a big system 17l so you need 6 litres of antifreeze for tot...

Re: header tank & expansion/top up/overflow/burp tank not full

I am pretty sure I already answered this on Farcebook ...... The system is very simple.... The headertank ( the one in the engine bay ) should always be full to the brim, and the top up tank ( behind the number plate flap ) should be full to the max mark when cold. When the engine is up to normal ru...

Re: Heater matrix issue?

Classic case of changed too many things at once syndrome !

Air lock in the heater matrix will be the real issue , but if you don’t know if the heater control tap is open or closed you will struggle to bleed it . First job would be make sure you know if the tap is opening and make sure it is

Re: Converting to automatic

The short shift just does what it says on the tin, it makes the shift in the cab shorter 2cm in the cab is 2mm at the gearbox , so it changes the fulcrum point of the stick making the movement in the cab less to do the same at the box . However , if you have linkage issues a short shift won’t cure t...

Re: JP Group driveshaft joints

Honestly , regreasing may well be all you need to do , there is never enough grease with these when they are supplied and it dries up and goes all claggy , not lubricating at all . Well worth taking them off and cleaning all the old crap out and regreasing Also , buy the best quality ones , the "alt...

Re: Up the Horn

It’s a negative switch , so check the wiring isn’t damaged and shorting to chassis , normally wound round the bottom of the column.

You only had to snip one wire at the horn ......

Re: Dropping Engine using wood + straps

I’ve never used a engine crane for T25s engine, always just use a trolley Jack for the engine and one for the gearbox to match the height , several petrol engines and one KY .

I’ll admit doing the KY would have been easier lowing it down from above , bloody heavy horrible things
