Re: Timing For E5 And E10 Petrol DJ2.1 Engine Query
If any one is putting E10 in a vehicle with a carburetor they should be aware that E10 contains more oxygen molecules than E5 meaning the engine will run leaner (hotter) unless it has been adjusted to suit, I fitted a A/F ratio meter so I can adjust the carbs to run best on what ever I chose to fill...

Re: Rare but violent brake vibration
Make sure you have the right size wheel bearing fitted, the stub axle spindle on the early vans is a smaller diameter than the later vans, the bearings will fit but the hub and wheel will wobble around, depending on how tight the hub nut is it could give the symptoms you have, is an easy thing to ch...

The standard VW fuel filter can be a pain, try by-passing the thermo valve in the return to send the fuel back to the tank and not through the filter, put a piece of fuel line linking both hose tails on the thermo valve. If its not a VW filter ignore this.

Re: Missing an alternator bracket stud
I always use left handed drill bits when drilling out broken studs, some times the bit grips the broken stud and spins it out.

Re: The great carb debate
You don't need to spend loads of money, ask nicely on this forum explaining what you need and why, (there must be people on here who can help with cheap parts), and when you have everything ask again about fitting, you may get lucky and get a good set that doesn't need rebuilding, I bought all the b...

Re: The great carb debate
The problem with single carb setups on air cooled engines is the unheated inlet manifolds, the single progressive is a good carb on a water cooled with water heated inlets. You could try heating the j tube from the exhaust like the type 1 engine but is easier to buy some second hand 32/34 pdsit's fr...

Re: The great carb debate
I also bought a T25 2.0l Aircooled with the DGV single carb fitted and found it pretty much undriveable when it was cold, what happens in a carburettor is that air and fuel are mixed in a certain ratio which is then drawn into the engine and burnt, without preheated inlet manifold the mixed air and ...

Mppt is the way to go, 20-30% more efficient than a pwm, try Bimble Solar for any thing solar, good prices and good service, they do a charger that after charging batteries will run a fridge direct leaving the batteries fully charged until needed, I think its called the Duo something, charges two ba...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'
My van had the 32/36 progressive dgv and 009 when I bought it, it was very difficult to start and ran bad, so I replaced the 009 ( originally designed for industrial stationary engines ) with a 034 power spark but found on my dgv ( was not an Empi ) the vacuum port was in the wrong place and advance...
