Re: Need some advice on cutting out
That VW Telefunken TCI is ancient, not as old as the 211 unit that I had fall over recently, but its a Golf 2 part so its as old as your van. Its just a transistor amplifier that relies on the heat sink for long life, but sooner or later they die. Thank you. It’s a really well kept van from what I’...

Re: Need some advice on cutting out
So I’m going to try and keep this thread alive until I know it’s fixed. I’ve read so many threads with no actual resolutions. Cleaned all the earths in the engine compartment that I can find and I’ve swapped out the TCI module and cleaned the idling stabiliser unit. Only one run so far but Im going ...

Cheers, I do this as part of my service as well

Re: Need some advice on cutting out
Put the old relays back in for starters. Then try disconnecting the digital idle stabiliser plugs and connect these two plugs together. Thank you.. I’ve just read Aidan’s post aswell. I was going to say. Even though it starts runs and idle really well what would be the reason for Eliminating this. ...

Re: Need some advice on cutting out
I’ve had a run out just to grab some fuel and curiosity.. first 10min - went really well and thought it’s cured, pulled over to refuel. Set off and around 5min into the trip it didn’t cut out this time but I was in 5th around 3000rpm and it started to buck.. it didn’t cut out but it was bucking for ...

Re: Need some advice on cutting out
I’ve done a little more reading.. on the samba there is a thread about a similar issue.. my tach also goes to the floor when it happens so they suggest electrical.. so I’ve gone ahead and cleaned the hall sensor and cabling. Cleaned the pins on the ecu.. which to be honest were really chalked up. Sw...

Need some advice on cutting out
This is a real intermittent issue so I’m struggling to put my finger on what could be the problem. The reason I’m posting is because it happened today and wouldn’t restart for about 20min. It’s a 88 2.1dj - it will start and run with no issues whatsoever… but a few times now and I will say that it h...

Re: Temp gauge issue
Issue may be resolved  I’ve just got back and cleaned all the terminals with contact cleaner.. tested V at the temp sender and received 9.9v… put it all back together and went for a 20min drive and the temp gauge is sitting bang in the middle.. I really hope it was a quick fix but I’m never o...

Re: Temp gauge issue
Also when I checked the original cluster that I removed to check that regulator I think that some has been here before as it looks like they have soldered the regulator Have you put clocks in from a different year of van? I read somewhere that there are a couple of different dashes and may not be w...

Re: Temp gauge issue
Unfortunately I don’t have any time for troubleshooting time today as I’ve got to take the kids out for the day. But quickly tested the bottom of the 14 pin connector and I am receiving 9.4v so that rules out the clocks and tells me the voltage regulator is working.. so why the hell am I getting bat...

Temp question
Evening all. Newly acquired van again so just fault finding at the moment, first issue I’ve got is the temp sensor. The light comes on and goes off as normal, needle stays at the bottom when ignition is on, once the engine starts it rises really quickly then disappears, I don’t believe it’s over hea...

Re: 5 speed question
Thanks for all the replies..
I tried to get out there today to start investigating but a young family once again took over.
I’ll try again tomorrow and also get some photos of what I find.
Yes unless I push my way down and across it’s like I have a 4 speed to be honest

5 speed question
I’ve done a search but can’t really find the answer. I’ve had a couple of t25’s in the past both were 4 speed so this one is a 5 speed. Obviously a dog leg first… but the question on this van I have push down like you do with reverse to select first.. then when I need second I have to throw the leve...
