Re: Bottom Belt JX 1.6TD Engine
yes i have the same problem! the two replies my research has lead me to is: 1) belt is old and stretched and should be replaced. 2) there may be some shims behind the pulley plate - that when removed will tighten the belt. The pully plate is held on by three allen head bolts, and it is fairly tricky...

Speak to PEET on here. He is based in W Sussex Horsham way.
He did some mechanical repairs for me and was very pleasant to deal with and he had a couple of bodywork projects on the go.

Re: lowering
oh yes my mistake! they were 70mm AVO's.
Re: lowering
t3 taz - I have recently fitted bilsteins and 60mm avo springs on standard steels on my 88 caravelle. (Supplied from Brickwerks) The ride is smooth in general but the bounce on hitting any bumps is slightly harder - expected! But i measured before and after and the 60mm springs took it 50mm down - s...

Re: Hard brake pedal 1600 td
i had this problem with the servo pump - and the metal collar where the hose connects to the engine block where the little pump is (within the engine) was corroded and had split. I seem to remember that you can buy relacement ones. But after receiving some advice here! i used some chemical metal to ...

Diesel Pump reconditioning - advice please!
i have a 1988 1.6td JX - recently fitted recon only done my first 500 miles in it- which goes well. However i have recently noticed a small diesel leak, which when on motorways ends up spraying the rear door of my van and shows up in small pools of diesel in the pockets on the engine block. Having h...

Vacuum pump head - where can i get 1?

Where the little one way plastic fitting sits the metal collar has separated from the body some how and so it does not make a good seal and when on idle my brake pedal goes... ermm hard! it still brake...

How do i find a good AAZ?
i am facing a tough decision of engine choice as my 1.6 TD has blown. i want more power, everyone seems to rate the AAZ conversion - but there seems to be no garuntee that my money spent will give me a reliable running engine. Its not the mechanic that i would have to use that worries me - there see...

Can anyone recommend a mechanic to fit a 1.9TD aaz?
i live in caterham surrey. i have tried a few 'VW' garages but none of them seem to be confident about a 1.9td aaz conversion (currently i have a blown 1.6td JX). at the moment i can only get a replacement 1.6td jx fitted, but was tempted to go for the increased power option. does anyone recommend a...

where do i look for a replacement engine?
My 1.6 JX diesel has burnt out.
Is it worth replacing the same?
Is there much advantage in the 1.9 AAZ conversion?
and also,
What car does an AAZ come from where can i get a decent one?
thanks,
Novice, but willing to get dirty.

Engine dead! Help me decide what to do next!
1988 1.6 TD JX caravelle OK the engineer has confirmed by listening to engine that it had dropped a 'swirl chamber' and the engine is wrecked. I am not mechanically minded beyond the outer casing anyway but by the sound of the engine i think he must be right! SO my idea now is to install a 1.9 TD fo...
