Re: Overheated - what now?

This is what i was told by a mechanic back in July, So I had the injection pump rebuilt and a new cam belt only then. Seems something else is wrong too causing that issue.

Yep it has had an engine change already at some point, not sure when or by who.

Re: Overheated - what now?

After a bit more exploration this morning, I've found various other things going on. Fan isn't working as it should, cam belt has some serious rubbing on one side, there's been a slow electrical leak for weeks. Just been quoted ~£800 for a new head all sorted. Is this reasonable? It seems a sensible...

Re: Overheated - what now?

Ok, how would I know this for sure?

How much of a job is replacing head gasket?

Overheated - what now?

Hi,  Yesterday, the van overheated at 7am in January in Cornwall - slightly strange. Up until this point not had any cooling issue apart from rising temp on big hills in the summer when it just needs a break every now and then. Apart from the fact that fan is fitted on a chicken switch, though the t...

Re: changing Rocker cover gasket

I had overtightened some of them way too much I think. Torque wrench wasn't working properly in the low end of the range.  I'd started grinding onto the flat part of the studs and caused all sorts of frustration to myself. Taken the all the studs out and put some new studs in now, going to try finis...

Re: changing Rocker cover gasket

The threads are fine on both of them... I think the problem might be that I have reached the flat part of the stud, the section between the two threads. But I would have thought the nut would stop turning there rather than keep spinning.  Does this mean I've already compressed the gasket too much bu...

Re: changing Rocker cover gasket

Hi, quick question following on from the 10nm advice here.. just changed my gasket and put new studs in, but can only get 3 of the nuts to tighten to 10nm, the rest of them seem to be pretty loose and keep turning. Do I need to keep cranking them round? (Worried about overtightening them) the studs ...

Re: Should this be a turbo oil return line?

Not certain what the number would be as don't have a rev counter, but I think to the top of the range really from how it feels.

Should this be a turbo oil return line?

Hunting oil leaks and found that a hose between the turbo and oil sump is cracked and dropping some oil I think. Was going to crack on and replace this hose, but came across the turbo oil return line on bw. Should this hose actually be a metal pipe? Does it make much difference if so? Could this be ...

Re: Are Diesel injection pumps interchangable?

Yep. It rocks by quite a bit, even with the belt still on it

Re: Are Diesel injection pumps interchangable?

The pulley has a lot of play in it - causing timing belt wear. I'm told it's probably the bushings worn inside the injection pump

Are Diesel injection pumps interchangable?

Hi,  I'm in need of an injection pump change for my JX. Either looking at buying a recon'd one or paying for a reconditioning of my own is expensive, but obviously in the long run probably worth the money. However i'm skint. I was told that any diesel injection pump would work by a garage, but it wo...

Re: Van Not turning over question.

Haven't  stripped and checked the ignition. Assumed that because all other functions seems to be fine it's not to do with this. Also thought that as the problem arose after fiddling about with all the gearbox and starter motor connections, the problem was more likely to be to the rear of the car tha...

Re: Van Not turning over question.

So got a new meter this morning. Charge across the battery is 12.5v so all good there. On re testing the starter feed wire there is a voltage of 0.9v coming through here when the key is turned. And this should be 12v if I'm correct? Seems the wire is corroded/frayed/not connected somewhere. Complete...

Re: Van Not turning over question.

Perhaps the battery has had it. Although seems more likely my voltmeter's had it! Was given to me second hand...The split charger display says it's over half full. And if it was 10% surely it shouldn't have started the van earlier today and yesterday
