Re: Temperature Gauge issues

Thanks for all the replies and offer of help, really appreciate it. I have it working now. I had some work done on the engine and they thought that the sensor was not needed as it was 'a crossover year' Turns out it was required and after some colour wire key research, the correct wire (yellow/red) ...

Re: Temperature Gauge issues

UPDATE, fuse 43 removed has no affect as tried previously. Put a new temperature sensor in and also no change.

Re: Temperature Gauge issues

Yes I cleaned all of the earth crowns and added new spade connectors where needed. The rest of the dash instruments work fine. The issue I have was occurring before I changed the ribbon to PCB which leads me to suspect something in the engine bay?

Re: Temperature Gauge issues

Hi all, I have just taken the fuse 43 out and cleaned the connections. I tested it to see if the temp gauge went down when it was removed but it remains in the just past middle position. Next step will be looking at the wiring in the engine bay. Will report back. Thanks

Temperature Gauge issues

I have recently replaced the ageing dash ribbon with a Slaughterhouse Customs PCB unit, in the hope that it would fix an issue with the temp gauge. It was only after it overheated that it began to play up. The symptoms are as follows: Upon ignition, it shoots up to just over half way where it sits, ...

Re: 1.9DG waterjacket leak

Quick update on this. Slaughterhouse Customs took on the work and did a great job. Engine saved! Had to get the cylinders honed and pistons and rings sorted but super happy! 💪

Auto Electric assistance

Hello, after 3 years of trouble free motoring, I have a few niggling electric issues that I'd like to solve. Was wondering if there is anyone in the North London area that could be recommended or help? 1985 VW Autosleeper. Split charge is reading ok both sides. Battery readings ok, fluctuates at LED...

Re: 1.9DG waterjacket leak

Booked into The VW Engine Co 1st June. They fit me in as I need it for a wedding and Glastonbury. Quite expensive, but I hear great things about their engines. Thanks for the advice.

1.9DG waterjacket leak

Hi, aware that this has been covered but just wanted to seek some opinions before I resign myself to a 4k+ cost of a new engine. I have a leak at the top of the water jacket on the near side. Engine is extremely clean with relatively low mileage but was sat for a long time and did experience an over...

Re: Waterjacket seal replacement 1,9dg

Worst case, I will be giving the VW Engine Co a call sometime in the not so distant future. There was not a huge leak and it seemed to be limited to the tank areas, wishful thinking I know. Would engine out and replace studs and gasket do the trick, or am I at risk of doing all that, putting it back...

Re: Waterjacket seal replacement 1,9dg

Thanks for the reply. Engine has been amazing in the time I have had the van (3 years). It had a recon looking at receipts and MOT but sat for a very long time doing minimal distance (I think under 500 miles in 10 years). I noticed a coolant leak left side by the head last year and replaced the inle...

Could you recommend them? Going to have to get mine done soon, or do it myself. I am in Tottenham, North London. Engine is very clean recon on 40K ish with a recent stainless steel system with no stud issues. WBX 1.9 DG
