Re: 2.1 DJ Over fuelling problem...

Thanks a lot for the replies, many thanks to Aidan for sharing his knowledge of the system on the phone. I will do a few more tests at the weekend, and if I have no luck, look at getting the ECU looked at and repaired.

Re: 2.1 DJ Over fuelling problem...

Many thanks for the replies, Cheers Aidan, will message you about what time will be best to give you a call. Numpty question, but how do I tell which type hall sensor system is fitted to know if the pin 1 + 7 test is relevant? Can the ECU's be tested, apart from swapping for a known good one if all ...

2.1 DJ Over fuelling problem...

Hi to all.  I'm struggling to figure out what the cause of a severe overfuelling problem is on my previously good running  2.1 DJ engine. A few months back, the fuel pressure regulator failed (petrol in the vacuum side of the regulator) and loads of fuel was going in to the cylinders and getting int...

New Flywheel O ring.. Where sells them?

Hi all I'm after an O ring for the flywheel on my 2.1 DJ engine, but cant see them on Brickwerks, JK or VW Heritage, anyone know where I can get one from please? Also, a couple of the 5 flywheel bolts are a bit rounded/loose in the hex socket so could do with replacing them, again any ideas where to...

Re: What's wrong with my clutch?!

Cheers, Aidan.    Have avoided trying to start with clutch down/in gear but will give it a go.  Have ordered a new pilot bearing and felt washer (which was missing on mine) and will get the 'box off yet again at the weekend. Interestingly it would go into all gears with the engine running when off t...

Re: new fuel tank

If you intend to keep the van for a while I recommend painting the curved 'valley' area in the top of the tank with a good few coats of brushed on smoothrite or similar, this area is prone to corroding through as it is a muck/moisture  holding area that can get rust pinholes in it. I did the same ar...

Re: What's wrong with my clutch?!

Got the gearbox back in with a new release bearing, more clutch bleeding, and... it's pretty much the same still. ie, will not go into gear with the engine running, but gears go in ok when engine is not running. Just reading another forum post by Jonhutch earlier this year, a draggy/worn input shaft...

Re: What's wrong with my clutch?!

Well, finally got a tow to where I can work on the van, there was ample travel on the slave cyl. piston, lever could not be moved by hand at all, so.... off came the gearbox, all looks well with the clutch itself, but a lot of wear on the release bearing 'fork' prongs.. I have built thes up with wel...

Re: What's wrong with my clutch?!

Many thanks Aidan, that sounds like a good plan.  In the past I had a similar problem which I cured by building up the rather worn profile of the 2 prongs on the release bearing actuating shaft with weld, and filing a rounded shape on them. but I dont think this could have worn again so soon. Will t...

What's wrong with my clutch?!

Hi all. Having clutch troubles, the slave cylinder and master cylinder both had slight leaks, so both have been  replaced with new ones, the iffy looking flexi pipe has been replaced with a Brickworks braided one, system has now been bled several times, no bubbles at all coming through, but still th...

Re: Engine flooding with fuel. DJ2.1 1989 Auto. Broken down in roadside

My fuel pump has a short ( 3 or 4 inches) earth wire that is fixed to the same area of body that the pump bracket is bolted to, but just below the pump. Thanks. Does your van have two wires, white and brown/green, going to a T2 connector behind air filter box and by engine bay wall? Not sure but Ca...

Re: Where to get a new Fuel Regulator?

The right hand relay of the pair in the plastic box at the left of the engine is the fuel pump relay, a bit of info on checking here..... https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=674721 May be worth checking no injectors are leaking too, although that shouldn't cause a leak bad enough to be...

Re: Where to get a new Fuel Regulator?

In my case, the pump was working as normal, but the pressure reg. was letting a lot of fuel through, and sucking fuel through the vacuum pipe. check if your oil level has risen due to petrol diluting it., I also had fuel leaking from the exhaust joint. stupidly, I continued trying to start the engin...
