Re: Noisy Engine

Update Slowly making progress, I think? I managed to strip the sump plug threads during the Xmas break, delaying things while I waited for a new 16mm plug. That’s now sorted, not too difficult a job if you know someone with the right tools and expertise :) I decided to skip the engine flush for now...

Re: Noisy Engine

It certainly is an air cooled saga  :D The van was an impulse purchase from a neighbor who is moving & it has been sat for several years. There’s lots to do, but it’s a fairly relaxed project, I’m in no rush, & I want to do as much I can myself and enjoy doing it. I’ve got some experience w...

Re: Rear Trailing Arm refurbishment

Thanks for all the responses which I have found helpful. I've now examined the arm carefully with a friend who is an experienced engineer. We think it looks repairable and the garage which will be doing the MOT has already indicated this would be acceptable (they have seen it). We'll check the whole...

Re: Rear Trailing Arm refurbishment

I'll sort out a photo later today. Hole is smaller than 5p and garage who will eventually be doing think welding is an option. The other side looks like it has been welded previously, possibly by the same garage. Point about them rusting from the inside makes sense. The van may well be long term, bu...

Re: Noisy Engine

Thanks for the reply. Going for a drive isn't an option as the van is currently SORN as no MOT or Tax. I need to sort the engine before it can be MOT'd I want to remove the Tin Ware so I can take a good look at the engine; to check for other causes of it being noisy, to compression test & as a g...

Rear Trailing Arm refurbishment

My OS Rear trailing arm is corroded near the end of the outer wishbone. The garage has said it could be welded. Given the cost of new replacements, has anyone gone down the removal, repair, refurbish route & can comment how feasible this is and whether it's cost effective? I'm happy to remove an...

Noisy Engine

The Aircooled CU engine on my recently purchased Camper is excessively noisy/clattery & lacks powered It's been stood for several years & I suspect the hydraulic tappets may be the cause Wiki and other sources suggest this can sometime be resolved by a 30 mile run. This isn't an option at pr...
