Re: Front wheels very hot
Or they're dragging a bit, let them cool down then see if they spin easily or still binding. Piston could be stuck in which case a strip down could be in order, easier to replace with a new caliper sometimes. Thanks. That's what I thought too. What would you recommend I replace to bring the front ...

Front wheels very hot
Hi I went for a 150km run yesterday up narrow, winding roads. When I got back home, I noticed that both front wheel hubs were hot enough to fry eggs on. The rear two were cool to the touch. I used the brakes a fair bit and they seemed to work OK. Athough, near the end of the trip, I noticed that th...

JX to AGG Conversion
Hi all I'm having a lot of hassle with my insurance company who refused to countenance any upgrade or conversion to my 1989 1.6TD JX T25 Westy. They insist on a replacement JX engine. I don't want this. I want an AGG replacement one or something very similar. Following a flurry of email exchanges th...

Thanks for this.
Would the existing gearbox work? It's the 1989 5 speed one.

New engine needed
I haven't been on here for several months since my beloved 1989 VW 1.6TD JX T25 Westfalia mistook in T in T25 for Tea, boiled and cracked the cylinder box and head. Not the craic I was hoping to have. This leaves me with an expensive tin box. I was originally going to sell but would lose a lot of m...

Re: Westfalia Wiring
Yeah - i'll need to do some calculations etc. i think before deciding what to keep/lose. We've also just got a crx50 hence rethinking electrics. Few quick thoughts whilst i'm mid-reading around the subject. whats the consensus on getting rid of the VW switching relay and using a VMS or DC to DC cha...

Maximum Alternator Current - 1989 1.6TD JX
Hi all Wondering what's the max current for the alternator on my 1989 1.6TD JX Westfalia California poptop van with 5 speed gearbox. I'm installing Renogy DC-DC 50A MPPT Charger. It will charge 120ah LiFePO4 battery supplying power to diesel heater, fridge and lights for prolonged off-grid use. I a...

Tinkering with Turbo
Hi all Welcome to summer! I was out in Saoirse, my bus, yesterday, going up and down a lot of hills. She could charge up steep hills at a good rate of knots, once the turbo had kicked in at 2200rpm or so. If I had to slow down and went under 2000 revs, it took a long time to build up a head of stea...

Smokin'
Saoirse, my 1989 van, has, I suspect, taken up smoking in her old age. She's very crafty about it though and I never actually see her at it. Even when I start her from cold, there's nary a puff of smoke. I have tried revving the engine, both cold and warmed up, but no sign of any smoke. I can smell ...

Re: Teeing off fuel line for heater feed
I did as Rascal and also how VW did. Just cut the rubber hose coming out of the tank and put the T in. The pump can be mounted on the crossmember or the beam. Thanks for this ZsZ. This makes sense, especially if VW do it too. One of the reasons I'm keen to have the pump and filter in the engine bay...
