Oh heck, I seem to have completely lost the plot! I'm going back into my padded box!

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub

Oops, sorry for the repeat post. We may be making assumptions here, as OBG states, is the op referring to wheel nuts?

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub

But the point is, it's a taper bearing, so only nipped up, not 90 odd ft/lbs torque.

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub

Yes, you're quite right, a long time since I changed my discs and beatings. Having a lot of different vehicles doesn't help either!

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub

Now we know it's a front wheel, when cold shouldn't the hub nut be little more than finger tight? Split pin needs removing first though.

Re: Secondary night heater control switch.

Many thanks. I did a Google search which bought up lots of hits but didn't see one from 80-90. Probably poor choice of search words.
Hopefully this won't be needed for a good few months!

Secondary night heater control switch.

I have a DL1C compact with a 701 timer controller. The 701 is in the rear of the van within easy reach of the bed, very handy on those chilly mornings. However, being an air cooled engine, the cab heating can sometimes not be enough. I'd like to be able to replicate the on/off button of the controll...

Re: Frustrating Hot Start issues

I've had this issue with an air cooled van. It was a common issue caused by voltage drop from ignition barrel to starter solinoid. It draws more current than you might think, especially when hot after a long drive. I fitted a relay activated by the crank wire, drawing high current from the battery c...

Re: Propex exhaust

Depending on where the heater is mounted, the exhaust run could be very long. Is that an issue with a Propex?  Eberspacher recommend similar length inlet and exhaust, would that be a problem too?

Re: Paint for aluminium

I realise you can't buy it in a  aerosol, but if you can use two pack primer, it will not be affected by any paint type. Alternatively, put the top coat on in several thin layers with several mi utes between each. This will reduce the likely hood of the thinners desolving the primer.

Re: Oil filter change

The top of the filter can is well above the sump oil level, so won't drain out. It's good practice to fill the filter with oil before fitting.
The air cooled engines are 1.6 or 2 liter, The 1.9 is watercooled.

Re: Solar panel question

If your controller can accept the higher voltage you're better to run the panels in parallel. Higher voltage, lower amperage and fewer connections. Tidier cable run too.
