Hello Howard I will try to take a look later today- I have a 1980 but I don’t recall a heavy duty green wire from memory I’m afraid

Re: Aircooled Ventilation- too much fresh air!!
Just a thought but have you checked the plastic ducting under the dash is connected to the screen vents? Mine came off at the "grille" end and is, obviously, an easy fix. Would be worth checking if you haven't already.

Re: Greetings + CU Engine Noise // Valves?
Hello - I have the same engine and the same issue when stood for a month or more - have you tried running it and taking roundabouts / turning in a car park sharply? I have been told to by my local VW garage and it does work - best not to over rev when the engine is making this noise and it's the hyd...

Re: Petrol Starvation 1980 2 litre CU
Just a thought - does anybody think it could be anything else other than dodgy filter or pump failure? Could it be stuck float or similar in the carb? I doubt it as it's twin carb but am struggling a bit - have changed filter and bypassed the cut off and still no joy - I have a spare electric pump o...

Re: Petrol Starvation 1980 2 litre CU
I will give that a go - do you think the filter could be faulty? I have another new filter I will also try - thanks for the responses

Re: Petrol Starvation 1980 2 litre CU
No I'm afraid it ran with what I assume it had in the carbs for around 10 seconds then died and won't start again. No petrol in the filter.

Re: Removing Exhaust Nuts
hello - not sure if you have tried a set of sockets for rounded nuts (no pun or innuendo intended) - I bought a set of 5 or 6 and they do work - mine are Erbauer I believe and were around £20 - could be worth a go in conjunction with the other suggestions if you're struggling to get a socket / spann...

Petrol Starvation 1980 2 litre CU
Hello All, I'm struggling with this - I changed the petrol filter (in-line Bosch type) last evening and now fuel doesn't appear to be entering the filter - I have checked and it is in the correct way around and have blown through it (not sure if that was a good idea?) The van has an electric pump si...

Re: Outdoor cover.
Just to add I have the JK type which fits pretty well and has lasted a few winters now. The advice in practical classics (!) is to remove the cover in good weather to allow to dry out better if it's a breathable type like mine. Sorry about the sucking eggs!

Many thanks,

Fitting tight hose over brake / clutch reservoir
Dear all, Apologies for the title - and the (probably) daft question. I have recently changed the clutch master cylinder (again) and clutch hose with new (from Brickwerks - no issue with quality) and am struggling to get the new rubber hose fully over the connections, especially at the reservoir, as...

Re: Starting after being left for a few weeks
I have the same problem and our 1980 CU engine has an electric pump!
Not sure it takes 40 seconds but after a month takes a while.

Re: Leaking hose from brake/clutch reservoir to clutch master cylinder
Just an update - and (hopefully) useful for anyone doing this on an air cooled model (with tinware in the way) - I looked yesterday evening behind the passenger side rear wheel and think I'll be able to bleed it from here - will remove the wheel for easier access. Will post if it all goes horribly w...

Re: Leaking hose from brake/clutch reservoir to clutch master cylinder
Thanks both - sorry to confirm my stupidity - we have a 1980 CU engine - would I need to remove much engine tin etc. or am I better off just getting to it from underneath?
