Re: Expansion Cap

Thanks, I'll check the bottle then try Brickwerks. Chap at JK told me the cap had only 1 valve which got me thinking there were different types,

cheers

Expansion Cap

Hi All, Hoping someone can help with this. I've got a 1.9Petrol '84 caravelle, I think the expansion cap valve is stuffed as the expanding coolant is pushing out via the cap seals rather than through the outlet. I bought a replacement from JK, put it on and got the same problem a few miles later. Th...

Gearbox - DG / DF?

does anyone know if a gearbox from a DG will work on a DF? Or is it not that simple? I've got a DF and might have opportunity of a spare gearbox while I get mine re-conned, but the box is from an 84 DG engine (don't have the gearbox code yet).

any input'sd more than welcome,

cheers

can't remember if there's enough room in there but you could possibly try a set of stihlsons/pipe wrench, would have to be done carefully or nipple could snap though. I got a 6" set from b&q, find them very handy.

Thanks for the info, I've just had a look around under it and one of the CV boots is split, plenty of grease on the surrounding area's. I'll change that and then go for the gearbox work if necessary. If I end up going for the gearbox work there will still be a constant whine 'cause it means cancelli...

Anyone any tips on checking the transmission? Just want to check before going to the extent of reconning the gearbox, was thinking about changing the rear CV's first to see if it makes a difference.

changed the gearbox oil, still whines about 50mph. Can't figure out whether it's gearbox or drive shafts whining, need to get someone to drive while I play around in the back listening to where the noise is coming from.

I put new pads on mine a few weeks ago and found the pedal was crap until the pads had worn in. Even passed it's MOT like that. Now it stops within 2 miles of first hitting the pedal :D

gearbox filler/drain seals

I've an 84 caravelle, 1.9 DF engine and a 5 speed box, which sounds a bit whiney at the mo so want to change the gearbox oil. Couldn't see anything in the Haynes manual but I'm guessing there's copper seal rings for both the drain and the filler, if anyone's got part numbers or know's where I can ge...

Thanks for the input.

I'm guessing that it doesn't matter what I replace the existing with, as long as both are the same, ie if it's girling at the moment I could just replace them with teves/ate?
