PeteandNikki wrote: 18 Jul 2025, 20:21 Absolutely loving those final 2 pics with the alloys fitted. That panel van could hold its own amongst a lot of the modern stuff on the market. (Well, perhaps I’m a bit biased!)

Thanks, it's been a long road, be glad to be back on the road again.

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

Been a bit slack with this in recent weeks, it's currently in a unit 50miles away from home, so it's a bit out of sight out of mind. However managed to get another day on it, windscreen and rear window now fitted , wipers arms and new blades. Refitted both fuel balance tanks and the washer bottle. R...

Re: Leisure Battery Wiring Mess.

I'd check your cable sizes as well. Can't say for sure from the picture but some of your wiring looks like 1mm cable with 20amp fuses in, 1mm cable is generally rated at 16.5amps, if you have an issue the cable will melt before the fuse blows. 12v sockets should be on 2mm cable with a 20amp fuse in ...

Re: Leisure Battery Wiring Mess.

I would use a fuse box like below. https://i.imgur.com/ZN3HYu1.jpeg Run a 16mm cable (16mm probably over kill but will give you jextra for any future additions) from the battery to the 12v and earth terminals and then wire everything to the new box, including the solar. Will be safe and tidy it righ...

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

Looks amazing! Who did the bodywork for you? Mine is going to need a bit of TLC in the not too distant future.  The welding was done by local company, unfortunately mine was his last job and he's now closed and relocated abroad. The paint was done by the company I work for in Hull, they are a comme...

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

Another productive day, lots done although it doesn't look much different. Got the drop glass in and all the seals back in. Front bumper on and fitted the sliding door, easy to fit but god it took so long aligning to get it to shut and get the gaps right. https://i.imgur.com/IpiTkXP.jpeg https://i.i...

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

Had a good day on the van today. Front grills, headlights and indicators in. https://i.imgur.com/GvOcdst.jpeg Front doors back on with new seals. Locks, latches, check straps and handles back in. Quarter lights fitted as well. Was annoying stopped short at this point as I left my drop glass at home....

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

And finally after 2yrs its back into it's original colour. Full repaint inside and out, not that you'll see much of the inside but i know its protected now. Really happy with the finish straight from the gun. Now just the simple job of remembering how it goes back together and getting it through it ...

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

More progress, unfortunately not many photos of the primer process as I wasn't around at the time. Its also had a bit of raptor on the rear panel, front deformation panel, bottom of the cills and inner wheel arches.

Quick seat question.

Does any one know if there's an issue with fitting a passenger side seat to the drivers side (rhd van) aside from the adjusters been on the other side? I don't have my van here at the moment to check. Reason I'm asking is I've seen a single passenger side captains seat for sale which I was hoping I ...

It's to the right of the carb body. Give it a good clean up as mentioned above and go from there.

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

Made a start on getting parts ready for the rebuild. 1st on the list was the opening quarter windows. Stripped, repainted frames. Cleaned fittings and rubbers and put back together. Really happy with them. https://i.imgur.com/NIrcByb.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/WF5REWy.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/KYOvlZJ....

Re: 87 Panel Van Restoration

Hi all, I've not updated this in a while. I still have the van and it's still on the go. Work was slowed down for various reasons but is now back in full swing and will hopefully be back on the road in the next few weeks. All welding is now completed, rear jacking point was solid underneath as previ...
