Re: VW 1.9L watercooled cuts out on low rev

Best bet would be a gummed up carb, bad or not connected vacuum lines / vacuum leak, bad dissy advance vacuum although more likely to be one of the others. When was the fuel filter last replaced? also, if you have a plastic fuel filter in the engine bay lose it and put one on the outlet pipe next to...

Never heard of anyone doing it to a WBX head, not to say people dont, but I guess it helps to have the right tools to do it.

Re: Engine knocking

If the vans been sat for a week or more a tappets bled down as Rob said, take it for a drive. If you use it all the time and its doing it, might be worth checking the valve adjusters to make sure one isnt damaged/backed off or not adjusted right.

Re: Problems starting - just a click

Oil pressure switches will be left hand side of the engine as you look at it from the back. Low pressure switch is underneath between the pushrode tubes, so you.might have to remove tinware to see it, Should be a black switch. If you have a high pressure switch it will be below the water pump pulley...

Is the ground strap on the nose of the gearbox intact?
Check the spade terminal and the wire that come from it on the starter motor if thats damaged/corroded could cause issues as well.

I'd give the carb a proper strip down and into an ultrasonic cleaner. Clear out all the ports with an airline, all new gaskets. Make sure the float isn't sticking.. jets clean and correct sizes.. Ive now got like 4 pierburgs plus bits sitting around (ones a brosol) I had the opportunity to get a web...

Re: Oil leak help

Buy new cork gaskets give them a thin smearing of grease all around and fit into the covers then put the covers back on. If the bailing arms aren't applying enough pressure it can cause them to leak a bit too. They probably not been off forever and the arms more than likely gonna be stuck with grime...

Re: Blower motor replacement

The foam kit makes a big difference if you've fitted it right.
A couple of stanley blades or perhaps a very short thin hacksaw blade and about 40 mins of your life to separate the box is easy enough.. if I recall brickwerks did the clips?
