I guess you have a syncro?
If its only when moving could be more like something to do with a worn CV or propshaft UJ? Maybe VC?? but the syncro lot might be able to assist more.

Re: Clunking knocking sounds
Did you replace the wishbone bushes and assuming a 2WD did you tack weld them back one the wishbone? I mean I suppose your steering bevel box / rack could have play or a tie rod could be worn

I know this is a daft question but are you sure the noise is coming from the front?

Re: Dashboard PCB Replacement (CJH Design)
Ok, I think it's finished. I've double checked the DOPS connections using the old ribbon PCB and I'm confident I have them in the correct order. Jumper caps arrived today and I think I have all the necessary one's installed. I've left the LED 6 jumpers vacant. There are a few things that need addre...

Re: Dashboard PCB Replacement (CJH Design)
As someone whos first PCB disintergrated along with the rev counter backing (which I now have sorted i hope) and now has an old dodgy blue PCB held together with tape hope and dreams with no working temp gauge driving as a daily, I'm watching this closely.. CJH's inital ones were priced very reasona...

Re: out of interest . DJ injection on DG...
Same block so all the stuff will bolt on.. but you're bolting a 30 year old EFI to a 30 year old engine. You'd probably be better off on carb to avoid all the electrical gremlins, unless you've had the engine rebuilt with a new cam etc..and the EFI stuff is new. As Stu says Marcos stuff looks nice b...

Re: Starter engine/solenoid problems
Get under the van and look at the starter motor. (Or you might even see if through the engine bay) Make sure the cable with the spade terminal hasn't come off the solenoid. Also make sure the ground strap on the nose of the gearbox is in one piece and its actually there.

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?
A TDI at this point sounds more appealing MPG wise. I dont think I'll ever get marcos EFI stuff for a 2.1.

Re: Welding
Welding is by far the best skill you can learn when owning these vans. The thing with courses is they will teach you how to weld new metal to new metal. Welding new to old is a different ball game. Id advise getting a welder that has a gas option for it. While gasless wire is handy its not the best ...

Re: New Amateur Engine Rebuild Featuring a DJ2.1
Dont think I ever paid attention to the arrow, just as long as the thermostat is the right way around, IE the spring facing down..The O ring should sit under the thermostat as well iirc.
