Re: Hub cap Fitting

Hello, You are quite right, The hubcaps were type specific, no doubt lost over the years. My answer was to panel beat the VW logo into a dome.. Voila... :) Cordialement, :ok Thanks Sarran, The very technical hammer technique worked a charm. Happy motoring :) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2020090...

Hub cap Fitting

Am I losing the plot or has anyone experienced this before. Fitted 3 of some VW original hubcaps to the wheels no problem. But on fitting to the driver's side wheel with the Speedo cable attached to that wheel it will not fit at all. I have tried different hubcaps to they arent the problem. Is the c...

Re: Thermal blinds

I was thinking this this morning. As the winter is coming in we always had the Foil side facing out.

Hopefully that's the correct way for keeping heat in in the winter?

Quarter light windows

Just bought a pair of new quarter light window frames fro NLA VW parts. Got them very quickly and packaged very well so far so good. Took my original window out the bottom of the frame finally gave way. Then proceeded to swap all the rubber and glass over to the new frame. The glass wont fit into th...

Re: 1981 Air-cooled : Really hot, what should I check?

From my experience always check the oil each morning on a level surface. These engines are extremely finicky giving wrong readings when just barely off level. Dont ask how I found that out. Keeping it topped up to just below the top mark and I never go above 100km. I usually am happy to toddle along...

Re: Aircooled knocking.. Now top end Rebuild

Just back from a trip on the Wild Atlantic way on the west of Ireland from Spideal one night and Fanore in county Clare last night. A great challenge for the first trip since the rebuild of the engine. Pleased to say no drips of oil which is unexpected for a vehicle of this year. More importantly I ...

Re: Fuel Quality and Knackered In Line Injection Pump..Again

Is this a petrol or diesel. Cant believe how much crud is in that in 6 months. I usually change my fuel filter at 6 months. Its before the pump just after the tank. There does be a few bits of rust particles gathered in the filter by month 5.

Re: Aircooled knocking.. Now top end Rebuild

Re: Aircooled knocking.. Now top end Rebuild

Another good day. Got all ancillarys back on the engine all brand new fuel hose with correct clamps. Have changed some vacuum hose to newer one as there were some cracks. New crankshaft seal went in the old one was barely a seal at all. Preformed a compression test 130 on each cylinder I'm quite hap...

Re: Aircooled knocking.. Now top end Rebuild

I am indeed keeping them. I'd like to be able to use it over the winter months I know it might not have any effect but sure. I am indeed missing tin ware. I am missing the push rod tube tins for both sides. Never knew they were missing until I did the rebuild. On the look out for a pair if you know ...

Re: Aircooled knocking.. Now top end Rebuild

Good progress made this week and especially today. All new valves and valve guides all lapped in. New AA high compression pistons and liners fitted. Started the reassemblely of the tin ware and ancillary items. Hopefully tomorrow I can get into static valve timing and maybe a bench start of the engi...

Re: Aircooled exhaust replacement

Okay thanks I forgot about that.

I still think theres a benefit in getting rid of them for safety and for improved flow of air in the exhaust itself.

Have you noticed and positive difference in power output?

Thanks,

You hardly took a picture of your setup?

In what way will this effect the cooling tins?

Re: Aircooled exhaust replacement

Thanks for the help.

Very expensive for the JTubes.

I have a standard exhaust. I presume it would still attach to these J tubes if I got them?
