Brake vacuum
My brake pedal has gone hard! So I’ve done the usual checks. I unplugged the vacuum pipe from the servo and started the engine. I wasn’t getting vacuum there so I replaced the vacuum pump. Now I have vacuum but still have a hard pedal. If I unplug the pipe from the servo and rev it a few times then ...

Re: Windscreen washers.
I just had a look at mine, when I pull the stalk back it just touches the cowl. I wonder if your contact is bent or burned out which would mean you have to pull the stalk back further to make the connection. I can just about see the contacts on mine by looking through the hole on the cowl at the ba...

Re: Windscreen washers.
On my van (later type) I just had to replace the relay to a timed one (number 19 I think) and remove the peg from the steering column switch to allow the intermittent position to be used on the stalk. Funnily enough though after i fitted the new stalk i realised it was the cowling around the steeri...

Windscreen washers.
My van failed it’s D.O.E. a few months back on a good list of things. One of them being the windscreen washers not working. I tackled it today and replaced the wiper stalk with one from a mk1 golf which had intermittent wipers. My van didn’t have these so I assumed they wouldn’t work on mine. I was ...

Yet another 1Y engine query
sooo I had a 1y engine at my disposal. It was in a scrap van that was dumped at my property. Closer inspection of this engine revealed a cracked block... My question is this, Did all vw caddy vans have this 1y engine or was it between certain years? What else in the vw line up had a 1y? Am i right i...

Re: gearboxes
I very much doubt that anything from an 012 gearbox will fit in an 094 transmission, the shaft centres will be different and the synchro design is different Audi and VW were still fairly distinct businesses back then it was only in the 90s that they became platform vehicles and shared designs and c...

Re: 1.6jx to 1y conversion
So further to this thread, I have found myself a GTD injector pump with injectors and fuel pipes. Im told that this is a better injector pump than the one on the JX engine. As I plan on using a 1Y engine Will this pump be suitable on the 1Y engine?

That’s brilliant!! And everything fitted straight on?? What about keeping it cool? Have you got an oil cooler on it or are you just running it as is??
