Came to set the tappets on my newly acquired van with air cooled 2.3l inj, but can’t figure out how I’m supposed to turn the engine to TDC etc? I’m used to using the pulley nut on my beetle but this is inaccessible on the van!!

Sooty carb/throttle body
Hi all, My van has a 2.3l air cooled injected engine from stateside tuning, came with the van. Sometimes the van runs a little “lumpy”. I took the air filters off- and there was some petrol loose on top of both carbs!? There is a balancing tube between the filters, could this spread petrol around? A...

Solar joy
Hi folks, I hope you can help. Have spent a while reading through posts on solar panels, many of the more detailed ones are quite old now, so I didn't know if there might be more up to date info. I have an 83 devon, and am wanting recommendations for panels and controller systems. Have read lots of ...

Re: No brakes!!!
Thank you folks for the advice, I shall get onto it at the weekend. I’ve had my ‘60 but for the past 5 years, have done lots mechanically with it (building engine etc), and adjusting the brake drums/reassembling these, but I haven’t yet actually had an issue with the braking system that has required...

Re: No brakes!!!
Okay so there is no fluid in the reservoir that I can see. I don’t understand how the clutch has gone without me noticing??! What should I have noticed? I cannot see any obvious wetness externally, but I have moved the van since it apparently emptied itself. Is this a wheel and drum off job to start...

No brakes!!!
So I hadn’t driven the van for 5 days because the battery wasn’t starting the engine, so after a full charge today, started perfectly, and off to work I went. Thirty seconds later, slight brown trouser moment as I approach a car in front of me and the brake pedal goes straight to the floor with no r...

Re: Fridge gas valve sezied
It certainly has broken off because it was myself that broke it!! It is supposed to be a D shape, but not as much as this - there was a slit between two halves of the D, and I cleverly thought I could use a screwdriver in this, alas not, now I am left with this, which I hope may still be usable!!

Re: Fridge gas valve sezied
Immense delay in reply. I feel the cobwebs add a certain touch. So the knob just slides off (surely as supposed to), and half of the brass knob part has broken off (as seen in the picture) secondary to my efforts of moving the bloody thing. How much of an effort is is to replace a fridge? Are there ...

Fridge gas valve sezied
Hi all,
On my new brick, the fridge valve for the gas seems to have seized. I have tried soaking in penetrating oil copiously for a few days, but nada.
Any cunning ideas before I rip it out and replace/ fix?

Smooth steel wheels.
Hi folks, I am quite new to the van world, but have had a beetle for a few years now. So I have an 83 Devon, which has alloys on it already, but I am keen to change these for some (ideally) smooth steel wheels to go with some baby moon hubcaps/ whitewalls etc. So it seems that smooth steel wheels in...
