Re: Metal water pipe 1.9df or dg? 025121081d
Definitely an eyes wide open situation Smiffo as with most situations with these machines. :D I had to go back to the relevant section of my rebuild thread to remember how I had re-plumbed the Pierburg in. It needed a couple of hoses alright but luckily an engine I bought for parts had a DG manifold...

Re: Metal water pipe 1.9df or dg? 025121081d
My DG engine also had a Solex carb and manifold on it when I bought it. I bought and rebuilt a Pierburg carb and for the money spent, the power difference it made was incredible. It's one for the to-do list IMO.

Re: Oil pumps
The makes them in batches and I believe does not have an agent in the UK but get in contact with Marco via FB and he will ship to the UK. Highly recommended.

They are all rusty and scabby but unless you're prepared to pay a good welder to fabricate up a copy I'd prepare myself to live with it.

Good to hear it worked. There's nothing worse than not being able to trust your starter motor.

Re: Won't start Will start
Try swapping the earth lead to the battery or adding an extra one and see if you get a bit more starter motor power. The (probably original) earth lead on my '83 had frayed / deteriorated and wasn't able to handle the large starting current these vans have. A new earth thicker lead made a big differ...

Re: Coolant Level - New Engine
It sounds like just some air bubbles remaining in the system working their way back to the tank. Bleeding the rad is a good idea as they tend to end up there too. Take a look underneath for signs of leaks as there are a lot of potential leak paths with a rebuilt engine.

Re: Oil leak
Have you checked that the filter is tightly screwed in place? Just hand tight should do it. If it had vibrated loose it might explain the oil in that vicinity.

Re: Washer bottle pump circuit
Thanks Stesaw. It's good to know that there's no relay. I think the problem is that I am getting just 1V at the pump. I think I might have to track the +ve wire back from the pump to the switch.

Very impressive to see someone repair a wee pump like that. I think those are brushes rather than magnetic blocks as Oldiebut goodie suggested.

Re: Washer bottle pump circuit
Thanks Stesaw. I should have mentioned that I had dropped the washer bottle and pulled off the terminal spades off the pump. I measured the 1V voltage across the pump terminal spades. It's a new pump so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Washer bottle pump circuit
A bit of a strange one: My washer bottle pump stopped working recently. The wipers themselves work fine even though they seem to be on the same fuse. I've older style (bullet) fuses and there is no wiper delay relay in place. I've checked the fuses. When I pull the wiper lever (i.e pump switch) on t...
