Re: 1.6TD engine I.D.

Thanks guys. I was just hoping I was able to pin it down to maybe a 6 month period of a certain year. I had the same issue with my Rover V8 in my MGB roadster and someone had British Leyland engine production dates which tied factory installation into a vehicle down to June/July 1979 - Good Old Brit...

1.6TD engine I.D.

The engine on my 1991 1.6TD has been changed at some point in its life and I'm trying to find out what year of van my replacement engine came from.

The engine number (I think) is JX01602X but it's very difficult to read through the rust and tangle of pipes and wires.

Any help much appreciated.

Re: glow plug light

Thanks again ZsZ that's all very helpful.
I'm off in the van for 10 days so won't be carrying out checks till I get back.
Is it OK to PM you if I need any more info.

Ian.

Re: glow plug light

Hi ZsZ, I've just had another look at the engine and I'm now wondering if I am looking at the correct sender because just below the sender I described as being screwed directly into the head just below the rocker cover I have noticed there is another flange with a hose coming off it and an electrica...

Re: glow plug light

Hi ZsZ, Thanks for your reply.  I've just had a look at the connections you described - my van is a 91 model but it has had an engine change at some point. There is a plastic connector with a brown and a red/brown wire coming from it hanging loose in the engine bay with the red/brown wire cut and I'...

glow plug light

I have a 1.6TD camper and the glow plug light normally takes about 45 seconds to go out - is this normal or does it indicate a problem with the ignition system. The light has done  this since we got the van 4 years ago but recently the van has become very difficult to start ( it used to fire up on f...

Re: Main Beam Warning Light Failure

Glad you got the light fixed - I was off in the van for a long weekend or would have contacted you as I had the exact same problem recently. With AngeloEvs  help sourcing a bulb - and like you removing the bulb with long nosed pliers - then cut LED legs - slot LED in place and job done. Pity you hav...

Re: Gearbox oil change

Steve - Just for the record 4.5l of stinking oil came out the 1.6 TD (JX) gearbox and when I stuck my finger in the fill hole the 5l I had put in was just bang on the level but wasn't dripping out.

Hope that helps someone in the future.

Re: Gearbox oil change

Yes Steve van is sitting on a level drive and with 5L poured in its still not dripping from fill hole.

Think I'll have to try the messy/smelly option and measure what came out.

Gearbox oil change

I'm just doing a gearbox oil change on my 1990 1.6 TD ( JX engine ) and wondered if anyone can confirm how much oil the gearbox takes. I read somewhere 3.5 litres but I have poured 5 L into it and its still not full ( and yes I do have the drain plug back in ). Anyone know how much more oil I need t...

Re: Main Beam Warning Light Failure

Thanks for that RazorRiggott but yesterday I fitted the 3mm 12v LED suggested by AngeloEvs and it works perfectly with the existing blue filter cap - its a little brighter than the original but not so bright that it will be an issue.
Thanks to both of you for your help.

Re: Main Beam Warning Light Failure

I've not tried to fit the LED yet. I was expecting to just plug the LED into the housing ( the picture on Ebay showed an LED with 2 prongs just like the existing bulb ) but I didn't realise the LED came with a resistor attached to one leg which makes the LED prongs too long to fit into the black pla...

Re: Main Beam Warning Light Failure

Thanks AngeloEvs - I've decided to go the LED route as you suggested - spent most of yesterday looking for filament bulb but no luck - got LED on ebay in 2 minutes.
Thanks again.

Main Beam Warning Light Failure

I've got a failed main beam warning light on my 1991 T25 Autosleeper - I got a replacement blue capless bulb from Brickwerks thinking this was the correct replacement bulb but now that I've stripped the dash out the bulb won't fit. The existing bulb ( which is black i.e. blown) is not a capless bulb...
