Re: Oil pressure switch
Sounds like wise advice thanks. Maybe a silly question but I'll ask anyway!
When you unscrew the switch between the pushrods will the oil come out?

Re: Oil pressure switch
Well I have had a chance this afternoon to have a look and can confirm that both of the wires to the two switches are making contact all the way to the black box and that both are earth with ignition off. Assuming this is all how it should be then I guess as you say I need to be trying a new switch...

Re: Oil pressure switch
Thanks for that most comprehensive explanation and to do list!
I'll look at the weekend and report back with findings. At least it sounds as though there isn't a serious problem so that's a sigh of relief!

Re: Oil pressure switch
Ah, Sorry forgot about that little detail!
1.9 DG 1988 80K miles.
Yes the wire to the switch/sensor is brown. Should I replace it through to dash?

Oil pressure switch
Hi all, Driving home tonight and the oil light came on  Alarm bells rang out loud. Pulled over asap pulled lid off, all dry no leaks, water pipes at a good temperature. Checked oil half way between marks so drove off gingerly. Oil light then started flashing on and off. Then went off all toget...

Can any one tell me the name of the hose which goes from the early type metal junction pipe on a 1.9 DF to the carburettor choke please. Looked and looked but can't identify it on Brickwerks?

Re: Noisy gear selection
Yes I've just ordered one on Brickwerks. Unfortunately the genuine VW one is out of stock along with the rear bellows that I also need to replace!
The last time I go anywhere else for such parts.

Re: Ignition timing marks
Wouldn't it be more likely to be the cap rather than the lead as the signal is picked up from the cap then goes to the lead after going through the gun?

Noisy gear selection
Hi to all who read on, Replaced every part of gear linkage from front to back but I just can't get a smooth gear selection. By juggling the front top plate I can get all gears with difficulty and definitely not as easily as my other vans have been but even when they do go into gear there is an awful...

Re: Ignition timing marks
was this before you fitted the missing spring ? Ah ha yes he spring question. Well actually the spring was there all along. In my defence it was dark and I should have gone to Specsavers. I took the spring from the old engine, removed the distributor went to put spring in and saw one was already th...

Re: Ignition timing marks
Engine seems too be running fine and smoothly but the two marks only align now and again not as frequently as I would expect and not as often as the old engine. Hope that explains it better.
