Re: opinions wanted: JX 1.6 turbo diesel or 1.9tdi
Best conversion for ease of fitting/cost/power in my opinion is 1.6D to 2.0 gti petrol (8v agg). I was an AAZ fan, but now I'm converted (sorry for the pun). I've owned a CS (painful) and an AAZ (great), and I've done 1Y, AAZ, and AGG conversions - I would definitely advise you to go GTI, and for d...

Re: EliteVw
Carnt ever remember having no problems with aircool engines that garages or the reconditioners supply&fit.Apart from when VW used to sell a brand new factory engine sadly not available now.Its not fair when you get a bad service and problems if you get a good recon engine it seems luck on your s...

Re: Doom.... New engine needed
Smell of petrol from the cab could be a rusty fuel tank.Top of the fuel tank collects dirt & moisture then starts corrosion.Only way to check is drop the tank done this job to diesel&petrol T25s.Replace fuel lines coming off the tank same time.

Re: 1600 ct overheating
I had a 1600 twin port bay window. The valve seats started to pull back into the cylinder head this effected the valve rocker arm gap setting.Could this be the problem on your CT 1600 engine?

Just wondering how easy is it to remove without a engine crane? I have 2 trolley jack's and a pallet. Also can you remove the gearbox and engine as one? Thanks piece of bog mate. I did mine with one trolley jack and two pairs (6 tonners ) of axle stands. I put it back in just this afternoon with on...

Re: head cracks
Think obg means the black/silver patterning where the gasket should have been. I'm thinking the black bits around the middle top are showing where the problem was? These heads can't be skimmed, getting it checked for flatness shouldnt cost much so could get it done. Replacing and refitting is easy ...

Re: Is CT tinware same as anything else?
If it was watercooled its ideal for a VW 2e or agg petrol engine conversion from a Golf or Passet. You need a T25 diesel bell housing & sump.Wiring loom & a fabricated exhaust down pipe to fit a suitable silencer. If the coolent pipes and radiator are fitted use T25 diesel rubber coolent hoses...

Re: My 1980 air cooled Devon, a work in progress.
So Elite want an extra £500 to get the new engine running sweet".Didnt no Elite supplied new engines but reconditioned engines . That means using your tinware carbs or injection and other auxillary items that are still servicable and recondition worn parts in your engine or an exchange unit .Be...

Re: Gearbox not level?
Bit odd that some one can recondition a T25 gear box then a oil leak .Input shaft seal & oil thrower casting comes to mind.Worn gearbox input shaft seal will leak out oil simple to replace.

ig Read oops post 20th July.. If you don't have these fitted correctly.. there is nothing much holding the pushrod tubes in place.. so risk of leaks.. :( https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6RlnvkdMPgg/UerHJnQa-QI/AAAAAAAAA5k/AtiUEtWhzz8/s640/20072013365.jpg People invent all sorts of great excuses ...
