Re: Diesel oil pan material

gearbox case maybe MgAl6, sump may be similar really? It always seemed to me that the gearbox material seemed alot "softer" to me( more magnesium?). However I will pass on that info to my friend. I also posted this on The Samba and was told to try either 5356 or 4043 fill. I will post the...

Diesel oil pan material

So someone I work with cracked his oil pan right at the drain plug. I took it to a good pal of mine who is a welder by trade. He would like to know what it's made of- is it pure aluminum or some special alloy? He wants to do a proper job and would like to know what kind of filler material to use

Re: 1Y Head Replacement - more help please!!

You're probably basically fine. Where the pump lines up after timing doesn't mean the cam is off also. Just make sure that the cam and crank are perfectly lined up. When placing the belt on, you can take the tool for the pump gear out [as long as you were close before].After the belt is on , and you...

Re: What's this diesel engine?

That's when a diesel starts to burn other things like crankcase oil brake cleaner [don't ask how i know] etc. In this case what can easily happen is if the engine is worn,or even in a T25 like yours, a long hard right hand turn can make enough oil pool up into the head, then once it gets into the hos...

Re: What's this diesel engine?

It's a 1Y. It can be modified for not too much coin to be as quick or quicker than a stock JX . A proper 1Y intake with 2 1/2 " pipe and hose to be it have as much intake as it wants, dual outlet exhaust manifold and the rest of the exhaust with 2 1/2 tubing also. Then modify the fuel pump and ...

Re: more power?

I had the same engine and was wondering the same thing. I ended up installing a 1Y, but have always wondered. Why not use a 1.6 TD setup, and also install a water to air intercooler. The first thing i would do is take a compression test. If it's still in very good shape then there's no reason the spe...

Re: Thanks Aiden !

I'd love nothing better than to have a 16" er, but just not worth it for 95% of the driving i do. They do a pretty good job of cleaning the roads here.

Re: Thanks Aiden !

I just had to post again about this. I did an outside job and so had to bring my 3 ton jack, jack stands tools etc, which in retrospect gave me that extra traction. Have to go back on Monday to finish and when it came time to leave, i found myself stuck on the iced up driveway with the slope. At fir...

Re: Jx to 1Y transpalnt?

There's no need to cut the frame rail, only to " persuade" i.e bash in the metal above the frame, but also a little of the frame. Looking at it closely, it doesn't seem to affect anything , except perhaps your sense of esthetics. I found someone who had a 1.8 gas engine in their T3, put we...

Re: Jx to 1Y transpalnt?

You have to be careful where you are to cut the manifold if you go that route. When i first thought of cutting the manifold, it was not where i thought it needed to be done. It's much higher, but on the other hand, it may not affect flow too much . If the truck was brand new, i wouldn't have bent the...

Re: Jx to 1Y transpalnt?

yes i also had to attack the top of the frame rail also. Since it's thicker than the panelling, i had to use a BIG prybar to bend it back. At first i tried to grind back the manifold, but it can't be done without also bending the body. I asked my pal who is a welder and he mentioned that it could be...

Re: Jx to 1Y transpalnt?

The top cable is for the aftermarket cruise control. I installed it mostly because every year we take a trip to the ocean- the bay of Fundy [highest tides in the world] in New brunswick. It's a 10 hours one way, and since we do it in one shot, and my girlfriend doesn't drive, i need to give my leg an...
