Re: Help with inlet to carb mounting studs?
Everything went on quite nicely. No more surprises which I was pleased with. Engine fired up first time which made me smile, although I've got a bit of fiddling to do to set the choke and idle speed as it's not right yet. Idle's nicely when warm but has a bit of bother maintaining idle when cold. No...

Re: Help with inlet to carb mounting studs?
I think the linkage is still original but that is going by eye - I could be wrong once I pull the Weber off. I've found a scan of fitting instructions for the Weber 34 DAT online and it doesn't suggest the linkage had to be modified in any way. Was hoping to start work on it tonight but got back lat...

Re: Help with inlet to carb mounting studs?
Excellent, thanks for confirming. And yes, Weber to Pierburg (actually one of those Brosol's) and I have the spacer and gaskets already. So hopefully with the studs that'll be everything I need and then it's on to the next challenge.

Re: Help with inlet to carb mounting studs?
Thanks guys, appreciate the tips. Realise I went about this slightly wrong. My thinking was if I got in the right ballpark with the bolts I'd cut the head off and put a nut on as I could only find 1m length studs at short notice. Probably should have just dropped the cash on the studding in the firs...

Re: Help with inlet to carb mounting studs?
I would measure them but I lent my inlet manufold to What2do and never got it back I'd just buy studding and cut it to length Thanks for the help. I've ordered a random selection of hex bolts to test it out and then probably get some studding cut if they aren't in the right range. Difficult to narr...

Help with inlet to carb mounting studs?
Can anyone confirm the dimensions/details for the studs to mount a Pierburg 2e3 to the inlet manifold on a DG engine? I think they might be M6x135 and/or part no. 025 129 693 but I'm not sure. I think I can get them from VW Classic Parts but if not, anyone know a supplier for something generic at sh...

Re: Pierburg2e3 ve heritage replacement
Wee thread bump as I've finally lost the plot with the Weber 34 DAT on my DG. Long story short, I've finally found the cause of the carb occasionally not coming off the choke. It turns out the choke flap mechanically interferes with the internal mounting of the standard pancake inlet and the flap so...

Re: Pierburg2e3 ve heritage replacement
Back to the original question - has anyone actually fitted one of the "Brosol" 2e3 VW Heritage carbs? I'm curious because a previous owner/garage fitted a Weber 34 DAT to our 1.9DG and I'd prefer it nearer original. It's pretty hard to refurb a Pierburg when you're starting with a Weber......

Last part of the mystery solved - a worn out ignition switch.

Re: No spark, suspect hall sensor?
Progress but a little confused now as I think I've answered my own question. Took the dizzy off the engine , wired it up and turned the boss manually and I get a good spark at the plugs no problem. Not what I was seeing when cranking on the starter and means the hall sensor is fine. Need to reassemb...

Re: No spark, suspect hall sensor?
bigherb wrote: No as long as it is more than 5V (it is usually around 11V), you should check the voltage across the red/black and brown/white wires which will also check the Hall sender earth.
Thanks, I'm seeing 10.3V between red/black and brown/white with connector disconnected and 9.9V when it's connected.

No spark, suspect hall sensor?
Does this sound like a correct diagnosis? The problem I've been having is that our 1.9DG engine recently cut out whilst driving happily. Initially it seems to have been caused by a failed ignition coil as we found the insulation on + terminal wire had obviously overheated. Took the coil off and when...

Re: Ignition coil failure
So Brickwerks aren't stocking the "made in mexico" Bosch coils because they're not meeting spec so I chanced my arm with a Bosch coil from VW Heritage anyway and lo and behold it doesn't meet spec. So that's getting sent back and I'm going to have to track down a coil elsewhere. Random sup...

Ignition coil failure
Had to have ourselves and the van trucked home by the RAC after we lost ignition on the M6 yesterday. I've pulled the coil out and I'm seeing a reading of 3.3 ohms and 5.3K ohms on the primary and secondary respectively which is clearly out of spec. I know the coil will need replacing but what's the...
