Typical 'aftermarket' supplied rads tend to be one size fits all. By this I mean they have a thicker core, whether they are quite as thick as the 'official' 1.6TD/2.1 wasserboxer rad I don't know.

Re: Radius bushes (OE vs VW)
Had some bad results with the Febi bushes I used last year, one inner collapsed badly within 6 months, splitting around the entire circumference. Although quite expensive in comparison, Polybushes are the way to go. Had to do the job twice including two visits to the four wheel alignment bay so bang...

Re: Has anyone fitted Rear Disk Brakes
Baring in mind that the front to rear split (percentage of braking effort on the front compared to the rears) needs to remain the same otherwise you will end up with the back wheels locking up every time you brake heavily as the more weight force transfers to the front wheels (like doing an 'endo' o...

Re: Filling a westy gas tank in Europe
5 European trips all between 22 to 25 days, the fridge turned on unless connected to hookup, so about 16 days permanently. Cups of tea every morning, coffee a couple of times a day, cooking a full meal at least once a day or using the BBQ take off for the Cadac. Full tank when we go away (80%) and b...

Re: split charger relay function
Yes as above it disconnects the leisure battery from the starter battery when the engine is not running. But there are two types of split charge relay the standard one connects both batteries when the engine starts so charges both batteries at the same time, the most charge goes to the flattest bat...

Re: Water barrier polythene and waxoyl in sliding door
There is nothing particularly special about this polythene, pretty much anything would do it apart from bio degradable :D Spay glue works well then again most contact adhesives would do it. It actually helps if the glue isn't too strong as it makes sense to be able to peel back the membrane without ...

You need a small cold chisel....worked around the circumference of the plug, then at an angle to knock the plug anti-clockwise. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-Expert-10mm-Chisel-Loose/dp/B000OGZZAK" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff270/andr...

Re: Black box under r&r seat
Known as the 'buzzing black box' or BBB charger, these were fitted to Westies to charge both the starter and leisure batteries when plugged into the mains supply (hook up) If either of the batteries runs down (usually the leisure battery) the BBB tries to top up the charge and after half an hour or ...

Re: Spark Plug Removal what left of it :(
I think you could easily drill out the centre then cut carefully (possibly filling a slot) and finish removal by chiseling inwards. The issue here is getting all the debris out of the cylinder. I know this is all with hind sight but I've never seen plugs so rotten that they have sheared in this way....

Re: Incorrect Engine Code for Engine Size - Timing Question..
I would say it's very important you know the difference particularly if this turns out to be a 2.1 DJ. The 2.1 DJ has a higher 10.5:1 compression and so has to be run on 98 Ron Super Unleaded fuel and not regular 95. The timing is also different and not just depending on engine type but year....then...

Re: Vacuum advance not returning when no suction
I take it that this is a single vac type (pipe on one side only) ? then the pull rod should return by itself and with some force.

Re: Vacuum advance not returning when no suction
As far as I was aware the 'return' spring is in the vacuum advance unit itself.
