i've seen a video where the LDA opens just on revving under no load https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3jtM60Eyxo . Mine definitely doesn't do this!

Re: No boost in 1.6 TD JX
i don't know, there's no rev counter on mine!
I can see the boost pressure rising on my gauge, but it maxes out at 0.17 bar, which isn't enough to open the LDA. Do you think that my local run (working it as hard as I can) isn't enough to call for sufficient boost?

Re: No boost in 1.6 TD JX
i assume you mean the pipe from the LDA to the inlet manifold. yes we've checked that it's clear and not leaking. What's weird is that it will get 0.17 bar as we drive around (which would suggest no major leaks) but just not getting enough oomph from the turbo.

No boost in 1.6 TD JX
Been trying to locate the lack of power in my JX. The LDA diaphragm was knackered and so this has been replaced. We've had the LDA on a compressor and it 'opens' at about 0.25 bar, but whilst the van is running around with a boost gauge on the tube to the LDA, we can only get 0.17 bar (albeit on a l...

1.6TD JX faulty LDA?
Can someone please confirm that I'm proceeding down a sensible route here! Engine is a 1.6TD JX in a 1990 LHD T25 Symptoms. Potters along fine at low speed but no power up long hills. Ends up down in 2nd doing about 18mph up something that is not a mountain! Top speed on the flat is about 50mph. Def...

Re: Black smoke / loss of power
[hr] My thoughts, l can’t see how black smoke that leaves soot that covers the back of the van is “not an issue” and I am not sure that overheating would cause it. Did it have a significant shortage of coolant or boil over ,if not ,what do the garage think caused the overheating? My immediate thou...

Black smoke / loss of power
Engine is a 1.6 Diesel JX - 120K miles Tried to 'Run the Ring' last weekend, but just didn't have any power esp uphill. Van ended up covered in black soot all over the boot. Been to the garage today and they've said it's overheating and losing coolant. Bit of background - has lost coolant slowly dur...

Re: Fried temperature sender - does this make sense?
Update: Turned van around on drive (which is gently sloping) so that the nose was pointing down. Found that header tank wasn't as full as I thought and after a bit of fiddling around, revving, cap off, cap on etc I got lots more coolant in, so I think it was an air lock, not helped by trying to blee...

Re: Fried temperature sender - does this make sense?
More fiddling around today. The red flashing light is now operating normally, i.e. flashing briefly on start up and then going off. :ok But the temperature needle just slowly rises and rises (until I get scared and turn engine off) and the radiator never gets hot. Interestingly, under the van, there...

Re: Fried temperature sender - does this make sense?
Thanks for your comments. Will it only allow me to bleed it when the pump is running? If the rad is the highest point, then surely coolant will only come out when it's being pumped around, or is just heating it up enough? What does that fried bit do then - does it control when the pump comes on? The...

Fried temperature sender - does this make sense?
Engine 1.6TD JX Symptoms - Has always managed to use lots of coolant. Header tank to coolant always full, expansion tank by number plate always empty. Sometimes the red flashing light came on by the temperature needle, topping up with more coolant seemed to make it go off. Did a few thousand miles l...

Re: Sump thread repair
I did mention in an earlier post that it was difficult to ensure that the new thread is completely perpendicular to sealing surface of the thread. I would guess that this lack of perpendicularity is leaving a very slight gap on one side of your sealing washer. This would almost certainly be the cas...

Re: Running Fridge off the gas - SOLVED
I was being dense. It was working. It just a) makes absolutely no sound whatsover and b) doesn't cool down particularly dramatically.

Re: Sump thread repair - UPDATED
Well, here's the outcome. Got a mechanic to come out to us and for about £95+VAT he re-threaded it and put a bigger plug in it. No need for sump to come out, just needed the undertray unbolting to allow access. That was the good news. The bad news is that it leaks. Ever so slowly. Literally 1 drop e...

Re: Running Fridge off the gas
Well this is v strange. Firstly, the red bit in the picture is an LED. No red igniter switch that I can find Ralf85. It clicks and clicks when it is on "0", but when turned to max, it just goes stops clicking straight away. I've listened and listened for any sign of life, but I left it on ...
