Re: Welding
Thank you That’s good to hear. And that’s exactly my plan would be study it at night classes and then get my own mig welder and do my own van. I know it will take a long time to learn but as you say saving thousands as welders cost so much these days. Not to mention trying to find one you can trust....

Welding
Hi all been a while. So I have been thinking do I go back to collage and do a night course in welding? This is obviously for the van and possibly other uses as I am a countryside ranger working with lots of farming machinery that always needs work. Obviously I won’t learn it over night and it’s goin...

Re: Baby car seat in the van
Thank you all for the replies and that's brilliant news that we can for the base into the westy. I don't suppose any of you have any photographs of one fired to the mounts at all?

Baby car seat in the van
Hi all Sarah is pregnant and in 16 weeks there’s going to be a little explorer coming camping with us in the van. However we want to put the car seat in the back so Sarah can sit at the back with them. We only have lap straps in our 1984 westy. I was wondering if anybody has had seatbelts fitted in ...

Re: Oh dear have I messed up the gears
I think I may go back and retry again. I’m thinking of unbolting the gearstick from the linkages first. The making sure the cup selector on the gearbox sits straight up. I’ll then get someone to hold the gearstick in the neutral position whilst I make sure the clamp is in the correct place. I’ll the...

Re: Oh dear have I messed up the gears
Thanks Aidan I did a rebuild of the gearstick about two years ago and have had no trouble with it since. I did however not replace the below at the time so it’s still the old one. I have replaced the ball that sits into the selector cup, and the two plastic guides the linkage rods go through. I must...

Re: Oh dear have I messed up the gears
Hi all this is driving me mad. So as you guys mentioned I moved the clamp and made sure the bolt sat right in the cut out. I adjusted the length of the rods so they now sit at 12mm. This works I can select all gears perfectly. The problem comes when going into 4th I can go into it fine it’s just whe...

Re: Oh dear have I messed up the gears
So little update, we drove an hour away to visit a national trust property and the gear selection was as smooth as ever. When we left I reversed and headed out of the gates. I pulled away and bam could not get into second gear at all and when I finally did it was 4th. Luckily the campsite was not fa...

Re: Gear sector nylon tip replacement
Oh and one more thing don’t do it before holiday
I made the same mistake and fixed the gear linkages apart from when away I could not select some gears. It took me a while at the campsite to adjust everything which was a pain in the behind. To be honest I wish I had left it until I got home

I think yours is actually different to mine. Ours is a 1984 5 speed westy. And from the pictures yours looks different?

Re: Gear sector nylon tip replacement
Hello to be honest it’s best to take it all apart but you can just take the box off and get to the shifter. But realistically whilst your there you may as well take the whole thing apart and replace everything. Our gear changes we’re starting to get very bad so we replaced it all and fixed the probl...

Re: Oh dear have I messed up the gears
Thank you so far it seems ok just like before really before I replaced the parts. I think I must have it set right in the box at the front as surely I would not be able to select gears? The splines are a pain and it took me several goes until I am we’re I am I think I’m at 8mm and all gears seem to ...

Oh dear have I messed up the gears
Hi all the other week I replaced the gear linkages on the van. Everything seemed fine until this morning when we were about to set of on holiday of course. It drove perfect the other day but for some reason this morning I put the van in Reverse and went forward. I tried again and it worked. Then we ...
