Re: setting timing.

2 years down the line and I finally replaced the dizzy and coil with a Powerspark SVDA 034 kit from Simonbbc. the drive dogs on my old one were worn and sloppy. Nice steady timing now. no flat spots and acceleration is much smoother. idle is less lumpy. If you're doing this: unplug the ignition ampl...

Re: Not a restoration.

I've finally got the sills finished, was a bit of a job tbh, not one i'd like to repeat but she's all welded up up and MOT'd for another year. I also replaced the dizzy and coil with a Powerspark SVDA 034 kit from Simonbbc. simple enough job and it's been on the to do list for a while. That's stoppe...

Re: Not a restoration.

Well that's the offside done. :-) I cut the old one out in chunks between the outriggers, then ground off the spot welds and peeled the top strip from the floor. I then cut the ends off the new sill having measured from the back edge of the front JP so that the back end slots in above the rear JP. I...

Re: Not a restoration.

Thanks guys. I'll get a better look at it this weekend with any luck. Theres certainly a hole in the sill just forward of the rear JP so that area needs looking at. I'm not sure yet whether I need to replace the front JP along with the sill (they come as a complete unit) or cut the front end off my ...

Re: Not a restoration.

Well the MOT man got his tapping hammer out and it went through my inner sills in several places both sides, there are now holes that wern't there at the weekend when I had the van on the ramps. Time for new sills as the existing ones have been patched on top of patches every year since I boug...

Re: Not a restoration.

Just popped in to see what's happening. The old bus is booked in for MOT on Monday, fingers crossed as always but I had her on the ramps last weekend and she's not looking too bad for rust. I'll give her a blow over with the touch up gun if she passes. and maybe get away for a few nights at the end ...

Re: Waterboxer bellhousing on a beetle engine?

Cheers mate. We'll give it a go. if we have to change the flywheel and clutch that's not a problem. bolt pattern and starter motor are the main worries. input shaft will be modified anyway. :D

Waterboxer bellhousing on a beetle engine?

Hi you lot. been a while I know but I've not been doing much to the van, it's just running fine.
Asking for a friend who's building something mad and crazy...
Will a petrol wbx bellhousing fit straight on an airccooled beetle engine? and will the starter line up ok?
cheers. BBB.

Re: Not a restoration.

Hi everyone.
Hope you're all ok.
Not been on for a while, life and lockdown have meant I've not done much to, or with, the van this year but I did get out for a couple of trips away and it's still going strong, due for it's annual welding in January thanks to the extended MOT.
Stay safe people. :ok

Re: Rustoration

Looking forward to seeing the van progress now you've got the house done Roger. :ok I was thinking of you last Friday as I passed by Stirling in the van heading home. I have a similar genny but didn't bother with the sound insulation as I only need it for power cuts and the neighbours come round to ...

Re: Oil pressure problem...help please

Sounds like a sticky PRV to me. At start-up the pressure is high enough to open the PRV, if it then sticks open the pressure will drop as the oil warms up, then at a certain temperature the case has expanded enough to free the stuck PRV and the pressure come back up. If you warm it up at idle the pr...

We did mine with 3 litres of cellulose, 4 or 5 thin coats mixed 60/40 with thinners and still have some left for touch-ups.
Not the same paint I know but gives you a rough idea.
