Also check/ replace the ht leads if you haven’t already. I had a similar issue and changed the leads on the side of the road and all was good after that

Re: Occasional Knock
Might be cv joint. You’ll not notice the play in the driveshaft that would cause the knocking just by wiggling it. Does it get worse if you are going slowly around a corner? If it’s worse going one than the other it’s a definite cv joint.
Also check your drive shaft bolts are tight.

Re: Rear jacking points shot?
Bit more progress today. Found the back plate was pretty much shot and bleeder nipple snapped off when I looked it funny. https://i.imgur.com/tw0WSSE.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/0ine079.jpeg That dowel was quite a battle to get out as well, everything takes so much longer when its rusted. Anyway coupl...

Re: Rear jacking points shot?
You could try something like this? https://youtu.be/7-9TTy7on7Y?si=AdnqlpHZg6-nCSDQ Just be careful with the wheel bolts/ studs as you don’t want to shear them like the bloke did on the video. Yes I know it’s a Karman Ghia, but the principle is the same…..

Re: Engine swap choice - future proofing.
Just a note. Be careful with an engine swap and then getting historic vehicle status. A change of engine to a more modern one will be classed as a major change. Subsequently no historic vehicle status even if it’s 40 yrs +

Re: What engine and carb do I have
Sorry, can’t help you identify the carb, but one of the first things I would do is change the fuel lines (yours look cracked from the photo) and remove the fuel filter from the engine bay! Relocate it nearer the tank, that’s where mine is. Make sure you use e10 rated fuel lines. Got mine from Brickw...
