Re: Fitting a pop top in place of a high top
Getting the hi top roof off was just a matter of cutting the old sealer around the perimeter of the roof from the inside with a very sharp knife. Amazed to find it was held on with sealer only and no brackets or fixings !! You need at least 4 tallish people to lift it off as it is really heavy. Fitt...

Re: Fitting a pop top in place of a high top
Yes it,s quite possible the hole was a factory fitted sunroof, possibly a sliding canvas type? I wasn,t too fussy chopping the old rusty roof off with a disc cutter then grinding the spot welds off,the base lip that the roof sat on was surprisingly solid, then grinding away all the rust and preparin...

Re: Fitting a pop top in place of a high top
Hi. I have just done this. When I took the high top off the steel roof had completely rusted so had to be replaced with a second hand one I found on Ebay for £100. It had been carefully removed by drilling the spot welds around the perimeter. There was even what looked like a factory cut hole in the...

Fuel filler pipe
Hi, having just replaced the petrol tank, fuel lines, fuel filter, petrol pump and ultrasonic cleaning my pierburg carb, I am devastated to find it all blocked up again with what appears to be rust and dirt. Can only be from the metal fuel filler pipe on my 83 1.9 water cooled van which is the only ...

Re: Larger radiator fan motor
Hi, thanks for the reply. That,s pretty much what I read but it didn,t mention the noise !! Turns out I had some other issues going on. The water pump had pretty much stopped working, changed it for a new one but snapped the bolts going through the thermostat housing in the process, sent this to my ...

Larger radiator fan motor
Hi, I,ve just got back from Dubs at the castle where I bought a second hand rad with what I believe is a 450 watt fan motor. I,ve found an interesting article which says this possibly came off a van of a certain age with AC. Can anyone tell me if this will work instead of my 200/300 watt motor and i...

Course it does, not sure how I missed that. Got one loose castle nut though, split pin snapped too so it needs tightening. Should be fun.
Thanks again

Re: Rear drum castle nut
Great link, thanks sambus 2012. How on earth do I get 350 lb/ft torque on this thing? Is that necessary?
