Re: Only Mercedes rims in here!

Old post but might help someone.  Mercedes Toliman off W211 ( E Class Mercedes) 16 X 7J ET33   Circa early to mid 90's are the only Toliman to be a straight fit using original rear studs & no spacers (the nuts go on 8 full turns)  These wheels already have 14mm mount holes so don't need drilling...

Re: Checking/adjusting tappets

And....as these are hydraulic tappets what you are actually adjusting is 'pre-load' not clearance (as it would be with a manually adjusted tappet). That is to say, setting each 'compressible' tappet element within its 'working parameters' Slackening off the locking nut and screw adjuster, the settin...

Re: Westfalia Club Joker 1985 leisure fuses

Nothing more to add really, apart from 'ceramic bullet fuses' note the word ceramic..and then note the cheap plastic ones you have fitted. A bit of heat generated through poor contact resistance ... thats why 'PLASTIC' ones melt.

Re: Westfalia Club Joker 1985 leisure fuses

Yes..these fuse holders are notoriously unreliable, scrap it and fit an equivelent blade fuse holder. Originals used a white and red bullet fuse (8 &16amp) red 16 on the eberspacher heater.

Re: Front Camber

We are quite fortunate in that the correct camber setting just happens to be zero on a 2WD, this means that you can set the camber accurately with a medium 30cm spirit level. You will need spacers fastened top and bottom to avoid the tyre and touch the wheel rim. The pre-requisite being that the van...

Re: Replacing the leisure battery charger (1990 Joker)

The original BBB (black box) has two outputs, it charges both leisure and starter batteries on separate outputs. This means if you want like for like options are limited and expensive. The way I see it there are several options: 1) fit a single output smart charger to the leisure battery but ensure ...

Re: Leisure battery installation

The leisure battery was never meant to run the fridge when static and it was originally wired to work on 12volts but only when driving. The original Westy Dometec fridge draws just under 8 amps and so your average 80ah leisure battery will be flat in less than one night. Best advice is go solar but ...

Re: 6volt doubled up more amps?

6 volt batteries have 3 cells, 12 volt batteries have 6 cells ....using 2 x 6 volt batteries is 6 cells but in two cases...

Multicell batteries are just that....6 seperate batteries internally connected in series (6 x 2.1 volts per cell = 12.6 volts total)

Re: osram nightbreakers

In answer to your original question: Nightbreakers are the same wattage as normal bulbs and use the same amount of power so aren't responsible. However, the later 4 lamp setup does draw nearly 20 amps on full beam, so double that of a standard round headlamp setup. Relays and new wiring will be your...

Re: I need a chicken switch

I'm still on the fence regarding the need but if your gonna do it then why cut the wires? I would favour simply baring 1cm of PVC from each wire and soldering the additional switch wires in, finishing with insulating tape. This way the original wires stay in one piece. Extra connections in a fan cir...

Re: Is this gearbox oil good

Also...these were 'filled for life' but that was with an 12 - 15 year life expectation.
Realistically 40K or 4 year changes will be fine as gear oil doesn't become contaminated in the same way as engine oil.

Re: Is this gearbox oil good

Personally I would go 75W80 & not 80W90..better cold gear changes...of course VW used a single 80 weight GL4 gear oil but things have moved on and the slightly lower cold viscosity definitely helps old worn syncro's from cold (same viscosity when hot) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5L-Synthetic-75w8...
