Re: Using a Mk3 Tdi lump in my van?

Mark, cheers for the info - it’s gratefully received!
I have an AHU engine according to the boot sticker so at least the engine looks like it’s useable if I decide to do it. The flipped gearbox sounds interesting and I’ll have a read!

Re: Trying to sort out a leaking hightop

I need the lower 150mm of the pillars etc so I was assuming it would have to be the same for the sliding door upper rail and not to be pressed for a window opening on the opposite side?

Re: Using a Mk3 Tdi lump in my van?

Interesting.
Is cummings a Land Rover unit as I'm sure that's what I was told was used as the mechanical pump?

Re: Using a Mk3 Tdi lump in my van?

Hopefully it will work out ok. The engine in my Golf is superb and for the age, very low miles. If I can get a simple fit, it makes a lot of sense!

Using a Mk3 Tdi lump in my van?

At the moment my T25 has the painfully low 1.6 diesel lump and hopefully one of the jobs to do this winter is to replace that with something with a bit more oomph for next year. We also have a Mk3 Golf Tdi with only 110k on the clock. The mechanicals are good but, the car itself is getting very tire...

Re: Trying to sort out a leaking hightop

A quick update. I basically cleaned all the channels out from gunk and previous attempts to rectify the problem - which took me about 2 days! - and then re-lagged with new silicone. The good news - I've got a full summer of camping out of it - the bad news - my roof underneath is so bad, I need to r...

So if I just add 80 for the profile into the search I will come up with the right tyres for the van? I really need to get at done ASAP as I’m going away again in a couple of weeks.

Correct tyre sizes?

I need to replace all 4 tyres on my van as they are starting to crack due to age. I’m led to believe that standard tyres are 185R14C but, when I try and search for tyres, as I don’t have a side profile to input, most tyre search engines won’t work. Any tips or recommendations? I’m just after a good ...

Re: Trying to sort out a leaking hightop

My drive for a ‘quick fix’ is that I want to use it this summer and my long term plan will be a roof swap to a pop top. If I can get it waterproof, I’ll be happy as I can use it straight away, we’re supposed to be going away in it at the end of June so, the pressure really is on!! When I bought it l...

Re: Trying to sort out a leaking hightop

Yup, it’s going to be looking like that!
If I could figure how to load pictures I’d show you the previous owners craftsmanship!
I’m hoping if I just inject loads of Silk from the inside, forcing it out from under the edge of the hightop roof, it should remain waterproof for a while?!?

Re: Trying to sort out a leaking hightop

Yes, it’s going to be bad, I can see that with the interior out.
I’m not going to take the roof off in case it’s so bad I can’t get it back on.
I just need to keep it dry for a couple of year before I can afford the new roof chop.

Trying to sort out a leaking hightop

My new van has a leaking hightop which, judging by the amount off sealant in the gutter channels, has been a problem for a long time. In the long term, I’m probably going to be looking at doing a roof chop for a pop top but, I’ve got to get it dry, sealed and useable for the next few years. I’ve str...

Re: Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!

Hi, what an amazing thread, it may just have saved me driving around in a crappy looking van for years while I tried to find a way to fund a respray! My main query is that mine is high top that has been bodged with filler to stop leaks (hasn't worked!) and both gutter rails have been filled with sil...

Re: How to test a fridge?

I’ve just inverted the fridge. How long should I leave it between turns, a couple of hours?
should I leave it for a longer period before for it to settle before I connect power?
Finally, the only 2 cables coming out of the back are both black, in light of that, I’m guessing there’s no polarity?

Re: How to test a fridge?

Cheers for that. I’m just looking at building a cooking unit I can take in and out when needed. The plan is only to have it running on the leisure battery or mains hook up if a available. I’ll give the repeated inverting a couple of goes over the next few days and then try and power it up next week ...
