Re: Intermittent Blue Smoke Air cooled Engine - help!

OK, maybe this is my eyesight. My friend tried following me and he thinks the smoke is white not blue. Is there a way to generate a lot of white smoke once the engine has heated up? I am assuming that could be a stuck needle valve or something poring too much fuel in? Spark plug on cyclinder 4 is co...

Re: Intermittent Blue Smoke Air cooled Engine - help!

Thanks BigHerb, The oil breather goes straight into the air filter housing above the carb, so I dont think the fuel can get in that way (is that what you meant?). The breather pipe does not look collapsed and I can blow through it. I have to admit I have not sucked through it so it could have de-lam...

Intermittent Blue Smoke Air cooled Engine - help!

I have a CU engine in my van that is only 1.5 years old and worked very well until last week. While driving back from MOT repair after two miles I suddenly got a huge cloud of (I think blue) smoke out that back, engulfing the poor driver behind. I pulled over in panic and turned the engine off. Look...

Remove Brake Back Plate Issue

I am trying to remove the back plates for the rear brakes. everything is off except the pivot at the bottom. I can't get it and the back plate to come off. From the manual it looks like the dowel pin should stay with the bearing housing and the pivot should 'slide' off the pin with the back plate. M...

Re: Air Cooled 14MPG normal?

That's not a lot for a daily driver !! = It would take around 18 months to 2 years to pay for the conversion (I'm guessing). Mostly 15 mile round trips to VW heritage at Shoreham or the beach and then 4 or 5 longer distance trips away a year. The vans mileage has an inverse relationship to the numb...

Re: Air Cooled 14MPG normal?

Hmmmm, OK thanks, sounds like it is pretty normal, if on the low side. Anybody done a gas conversion on an air cooled as gas prices seam to be half of the petrol? Wife is keen to get rid of her day car and use the T25 as her run about. Probably looking at doing 3000 miles per year in it I reckon. At...

Air Cooled 14MPG normal?

Hi, Just been to France in our Air cooled 2ltr (new engine from the VW engine company in the last year) and looking at the fuel purchased we averaged 14.1MPG! Is this normal? It is an automatic Super Viking and we were probably travelling at 60-65mph for a lot of it on motorways. Just thinking if I ...

Which Fuse for Fog Light?

Daft question I am sure. Just failed the MOT on the fog light (among many things!). Bulb is OK so trying to work through the rest. Haynes manual says is is on fuse 16. My fuse box only goes up to 12, there is one other separate fuse added on the side. Any idea which fuse it runs off? Can I also chec...

Re: Intermittent Air Cooled Fuel Gauge

Thanks. So is that tank out to get at the earth? Looks from your linked thread that it is above the tank, out of normal access. Is that right?

Re: Intermittent Air Cooled Fuel Gauge

Thanks for the response. Does it at any fuel level. Seams to be one day it does not work, another day it does for the first 5 minutes driving, then it stops. I think a loose connection or earth seams most likely. Any idea where the earth for the sender unit is? I am hoping not to need to remove the ...

Intermittent Air Cooled Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on the van has always worked (if you call a full tank 2/3rds on the gauge) to date but recently it sometimes does and sometimes doesn't work. Any ideas what to look for, I am assuming a bad connection somewhere if it is coming and going? If anyone can point me to a list of what to loo...
