In the mains cables thread is the idea just to fit a cable from the altenators plus terminal to the starter and from the batterys plus cable to starter?. On my van there is one power cable going from battery to junction box to starter and a power cable from the battery to the altenator.Do i just dis...

Going to swap out the earth straps on my van for fresher ones and also the battery to altenator power lead .I have ordered a power lead and was wondering if this is ok as its a little heavier than the original.. (Cable Size: 16mm² ( 110 Amp Rated ) think its just a light battery lead.Gonna also run ...

Gear change issue
Guys i was having trouble getting my van into first gear and i left it with a mechanic.He has told me i need to replace the lower gear linkage which is worn.Can i order this as a new part again ,if so can anyone tell me what i should be asking for or send a link to a webpage....thanks

There are two types available 100amp and 150 amp..migh be worth while if the crowns are corroded

Ok i tested the sensor connector and the fan did come on so its the sensor thats faulty.I did notice though that the fan is only comming on at one speed when i jump the connector weather its full speed or half i dont know...any ideas why this might be?.I will check the wiring on Sat when i have more...

Thanks...i havent had a chance yet to have a look but from what i have read the sensor is located at the top of the radiator (although the link you posted suggests it at the bottom right) this was a design flaw in VW design of these ..i will know more when i have a look at the radiator over the week...

Overheating
My van was overheating and i did not hear the radiator fan comming on which tells me it could be the fan sensor switch.I am having trouble finding one of these although i think i located one on ebay from Latvia..does anyone know of any uk dealers who stock these...van is 1985 1.9D

Thanks for the reply Ian ..That was very helpfull and knowledgeable ..I will have it looked at asap..Have you any idea as to how much clutch fluid the engine holds?
