Re: New pads/bearings/disks - Grease cap exploded off. Regrease needed?
Thanks all. Spoke to the garage and they will take another look/correct it next week. He said they do normally tighten it then loosen it off. I've used them for years and have good relationship with them but I reckon the junior was on it. Just to be clear the other wheel seems ok, all pics are of 1 ...

Thanks but before I do all that - can you tell from these images that the current bearings are screwed?? And it wasn't just smoke from the new pads and grease cap not secured properly?

Also worth adding that the bearings were OEM, do they come with a sachet of grease? I seem to recall seeing them, but might be imagining that.

Not a classic car garage but it is an old school garage. They are normally pretty good, but I think I saw a youngster working on it. I'd be surprised if it was done wrong though but will check. I thought I read that the grease can tun black when under high temp. https://i.postimg.cc/QVN7DpHZ/2b412ae...

New pads/bearings/disks - Grease cap exploded off. Regrease needed?
Hey all - had the front brakes sorted out. Was driving gentle on the brakes for a bit but had some enforced hard braking. Loads of smoke and the grease cap shot off. Black grease sprayed over the wheel. I've managed to find it the next day by the side of the road. I'll bash it back on with rubber ma...

Re: Oil light flashing, fuel and oil guages not working
So not sure how or why... I started with wiggling some cables behind the dash before pulling it out, wiggled some fuses and just like Herbie and not for the first time the van has fixed herself. Thanks for the info I will keep it and reference if/when the problem comes up again.

Oil light flashing, fuel and oil guages not working
Hello all. Took my starter out to charge it up. When I put it back one of the smaller wires from the alternator had snapped (I think the blue one is the exciter, it was the other one). I've fixed the wire and the oil light is flashing and the fuel and oil guages are not working. I redid the fix and ...

Just adding a follow up for posterity. I had 2 new drive shafts stored so just swapped them out and van all fixed. Assuming it was a CV joint.

Re: Clanging sound, goes when clutch down. Anything other than CV stuff?
I've got Mefro steels on. I'll check all bolts and wheel nuts. I did a cursory check of wheels and a quick look at the drivers side cv and shaft. I'm nervous of rounding them off so will probably clean it all up under there first. Gearbox was off about 3 years ago so bolts have been moved 'fairly' r...

Re: Clanging sound, goes when clutch down. Anything other than CV stuff?
ah yeah thanks, gearbox was refurbed a few years ago. Can I just see if it wobbles by hand? (There's movement back and forth /in and out which I'm assuming is expected). Or should i actually check the bolts are tight? I'm Just reading the wiki now. I'm looking forward to laying on the floor in the s...

Clanging sound, goes when clutch down. Anything other than CV stuff?
Happy new year - New year, new knocking sound :D I have an irregular knocking / clanging sound that came on quite suddenly a couple days ago. Increases with speed but is not uniform. Goes away when clutch is down. I'm guessing it's a CV problem. Just wondered if there is anything else that it could...

Re: Reversed into bent over bollard seeking advice.
Thanks yeah I am considering the insurance increases. I'm not really expecting to share liability tbh. The van is insured for an agreed value of 14k (when it was in better condition). Excess is £250 with 9 years unprotected no claims. I'm half wondering if the hassle would be worth it to allow me t...

Re: Reversed into bent over bollard seeking advice.
Thanks for help so far - does anyone know what a garage/insurance would do regarding paintwork. So the panels etc seem easy to fix but then I'd have either just primed panels or a respray that wouldn't match the old colour. How does that work with the insurance? I'm guessing any bodyshop would sugge...
