Re: Normal alternator output?
I should have said, the 13.5v is at the post, not on the battery terminal - that's at about 13.2v. Also, the glow plugs are hard wired to a dash switch (it was a petrol in it's former life and had a bodged diesel fit!) I might try another voltage reg as they're cheap, but after that, I'm going to wa...

Normal alternator output?
I was curious as to what other peoples alternators are putting out? I stripped and repaired mine yesterday (the exciter line had broken inside) but even with a differing voltage reg(14.5v), it's still only about 13.5v. Although it's enough to get by on, I'd rather have it on the upper end of the sca...

Re: Panel van camper build thread & pictures
Scrap that, I've drawn out the diagram properly and figured it out.

Re: Panel van camper build thread & pictures
Sorry, it's attached to the normally open, not normally closed section on the switch if you're confused! Not that it would make much difference.

Panel van camper build thread & pictures
I've been slowly picking away my build hopefully getting it ready for a 5 week summer adventure somewhere. Anyway, here's some older pics - it's a lot further along at the moment, but I'm terrible at taking pics. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a487/cookbot11/received_10153570322260765_zpspzye14...

Re: Leisure battery fitting
I'm in Chesterfield if you want come look at my setup? It's not too bad to do when you get your head around it.

Re: Refurb or refit
Sorry, I didn't make it clear in the first thread. There's so much option and you can guarantee, whatever is done will never be simple! I can see me breaking into the 1.6d only to be met with more work than anticipated, it usually works out that way!

Re: Refurb or refit
Why would it matter if I would be keeping the box off the donor car and flipping it? Out of curiosity, what average MPG are petrols bringing to the party in a van?

Re: Refurb or refit
I do like the mpg of the 1.6 too, although it smokes, struggles to start and is lacking compression I think.

Re: Refurb or refit
I may just do the quick refurb now (rings, valve + stems, seals, etc and I'll have a good engine for someone that wants to keep it OE when I come to sell it. I'm intending to keep with the Passat box of the 1.9, so ratios with enough power (and a Sachs performance clutch) shouldn't present too much ...

Re: Refurb or refit
I want to refurb the 1.6d, but I just can't see it happening and still being usable. A remapped 1.9td sounds like much more fun.

Refurb or refit
I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I've got a late T25 that at some point in it's life has been converted from a 1.9 petrol to a 1.6 (non turbo) diesel and lets be honest, it's never going to be the quickest thing in the world at the best of times! I've not really driven far in it yet, but I'm hoping to g...

Thanks, mine must be ideal, the fans kicked in after a good idle and it never went any higher.

I have reason to believe this might not be letting it get to temp..... Grrrr. Sunday too, so good luck me finding one of these.
