the flexi rubber hose and metal pipe combo is the early set up. vw went to 1 piece plastic pipe thereafter, you should fit a plastic pipe , simpler in the long run , no support bracket brickwerks should do new , I will have a used one. 2.0 only came with hydraulic , the bell housings are swapped to ...

super late reply , yes it goes through the cable hole in the floor.

early pipes are metal , late are plastic to a join just outside (tight against the rad on watercooled)

factory boots wont have clips cos they fit perfect! aftermarket ones will last about a year before they split again! timer and time again I have fitted good used genuine ones which outlast new repo ones! after market springs? never found that genuine springs sag much , more likely to break. factory springs come in different rating and will have colours painted on them(check the wiki) if you bough aftermarket ones they will be generic (fits all types) however this will actually be incorrect for your ...

I have used stuff which is 10+ years old without an issue.

although it does seem darker and slightly thicker!

use a filter on the funnel and leave a dribble in the base of the can as that will have any dirt / water in it.

never had a problem with old diesel. petrol I have after a couple of months

I would happily run it in my stuff. mix it with fresh if your unsure.

were dealing with old engines so there tolerances are less than new stuff

interesting to see if your gear selection is stiff or your being heavy handed with the shift.

you should be able to change gear with one finger , no struggle and it should just 'drop in'
