Re: Advice on engine gearbox upgrade for a 16"
From what you want 90kph in a heavy syncro i think 5.43 would be best with a 0.70 4th gear, will still give good speed without over revving. a 4.86 with a 0.7 would make it not nice yot drive aroung your speed of 90 kph but would be better at higher speeds. MTDI is way to go, its only disadvantage i...

Re: DIY fix for aaz crank noses
Nice job, but this guy has removed the inertia ring from the crankshaft damper. 4cyl in line engines require this to stop the crank snapping. Not all have harmonic pulleys anyway, some have very light weight pulleys but some do suffer from ringing and others dont. Its not a nice job its pointless, ...

Re: Improve 2WD offroad performance?
was'nt andy simpson at syncropendence last year in a 2wd van with difflocks, he may be worth talking to, neil Yes mine with diff lock, it would not do some things but i had far more fun having to think about things more and taking different approaches. I found my syncro boring most of the time beca...

Re: Exposed Flywheel...is it a problem?
I thought it was Toyota who where having problems, haven't heard of VW recalling any models because of 'electronic' problems. My PD starts 'on the button' every time despite having a computer controlling everthing! they all do Doug, this news of having to leave vw engines running 24/7 is strange, y...

Re: Exposed Flywheel...is it a problem?
, Andy it would be good to find something good enough to fit strait in on the standard VW box Ok so your saying a pug engine is better than say a tdi or a mtdi which bolt straight onto gearbox. Tdi or mtdi is far better on fuel and power/torque, runs much cooler. No did not mention what type of eng...

Re: Exposed Flywheel...is it a problem?
With better engineering on the adaptor plate then this conversion may be viable. See what's what happens when you split it apart. Engine mounts are always way to close together which puts alot of stress on adaptor plate, they need moving apart/making neater. engine mounts been close does not make t...

ill come show you mine when its done then in mean time might as well be constructive or not say anything at all instead of turning every pug topic into a debate with your one liners Like i say when i see a good one which matches the standard of any of the numerous vw diesel D/TD/TDI engines which b...

V belt is much better unless someone goes mad over tighening the belt and then you may as well have the ribbed belt.

Re: Exposed Flywheel...is it a problem?

Yes cos i have yet to see one which looks like an ok conversion, certainly a waste of time and effort when a vw diesel will fit in on standard engine mounts and bell housing and use everything as ...

But before you go any further you really need to ensure engine and gearbox are absolute plumb in lne.
Best thing to do is drop it straight in a skip and put something better in there which bolts up properly
