Sounds like mine - like carrying a window around with us! Something else to add to the ever growing list :D

Re: Kangarooing/engine cutting out

Have you checked the fuel filter. In other half's splittie with similar sounding problem there was a wiring issue, where things expanded when warm and a dodgy wiring connection became more tenuous. I'll have a look at the filter and wiring at the weekend, been planning to renew the engine and gearb...

Re: Fitting detent ball & spring on 5 spd rhd gear lever

Just to update, I cannot believe how much better the gear change is now with a new lever and gubbins :D Before, when it was in gear the lever moved laterally a good 7 or 8 inches either way and there's hardly movement any now. And in 2nd gear it's miles away from the dashboard instead of hitting it!...

Kangarooing/engine cutting out

Our engine's recently developed a worrying fault; starts immediately, ticks over nice and smooth and drives perfectly for some time but after a while (30 miles or so) starts to kangaroo before losing power and cutting out. Last time out it restarted ok got a couple of hundred yards and cut out again...

Re: Fitting detent ball & spring on 5 spd rhd gear lever

Thanks all, managed to get it all put back together last night. Been following your blog too James as well as the wiki, it was pretty easy fitting the bellows after clamping it in a vice. I knew my old lever was bent (Mrs Born Too Late couldn't reach it in in first or reverse) but had no idea how mu...

Re: Fitting detent ball & spring on 5 spd rhd gear lever

Ah, I'll try going in from the top instead :ok Got my rubber ring on ready to go, the original one had disappeared completely along with the end cap and nearly all of the bellows on the opposite side. BTW, do I need to grease the ball bearing and it's tiny spring along with everything else? Cheers, ...

Did you work through these pages? http://wiki.club8090.co.uk/index.php/Gearbox_Clutch_CVs_-_Renovating_5_speed_change_mechanism_Pt1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; spent many a lunch break reading through these before getting my hands dirty  This is the bit I'm having ...

Fitting detent ball & spring on 5 spd rhd gear lever

I've been struggling/getting more & more grease everywhere for approaching an hour now...is there an "easy" way to squash the ball bearing down out of the way so you can slide in the clinch bolt?

Re: Plugging battery charger into the van's 240v socket

If you have a multi meter you can check if it's OK to use. Plug the battery charger into the mains and check the output to earth with the meter. Check both POS and neg but obviously not at the same time. As long as the output is not linked to the earth you should be ok Thank for that, I'll give it ...

Re: Plugging battery charger into the van's 240v socket

Thanks for the replies. The charger I'm planning on using was a cheapo one from somewhere like Aldi, I used to take the main battery out and charge it in the house overnight when needed but it's a bit of a faff. The tiny solar panel I've been using for trickle charging just about replaces the voltag...

Plugging battery charger into the van's 240v socket

I'm sure this has been covered before but I had a bit of a search and couldn't find a thread. In a nutshell, can I plug a battery charger into the plug socket in the van while on hookup and charge the starter battery with it? So it would be kind of charging itself.

Re: What do all these wires do?

It was part of an alarm system Beat me to it! Looks like my clamp is upside down too, I'll be changing that then. Try tracing the other odd wires back to where they come from. They don't look original so could be a previous owner's mod that's been removed. Have you got any electrical gadgets that d...

Re: Imperial or metric?

Only noticed today, the 2 height restriction barriers in the car park for Uncle Toms Cabin on Southend seafront are different - one on the left is feet and inches and the one over the other side is in metric. Can't really complain as I use a mixture of both depending what I'm doing or sometimes who ...
