Re: Temperamental Starter Motor
I have the same symptoms on my 2.1 DJ (original engine). I've been lucky though, when it goes silent I've held the key and it has eventually turned and just about fired. This has happened with a new battery, and my battery is always topped up. Like yourself most times it's fine (but it's still not f...

Re: Advice on adjusting distributor for 95 octane (2.1 DJ)
Yep, I realised by your calculations I was twisting way too far! Clearly that plastic thing that shifts the spark to maintain the idle was working it's socks off (as I was twisting the dizzy). It probably has a 0.5Mhtz processor.... In the end I took the cover off the engine so could listen for pink...

Re: Advice on adjusting distributor for 95 octane (2.1 DJ)
Thanks for the figures, very useful, I'll get my calculator and ruler out and will try and see how far I've gone, and what's a better setting. I'll need to do a few thousand miles on it before getting back to the UK. Yep, and the explosions should be happening at the top of the cylinder rather than ...

Re: Advice on adjusting distributor for 95 octane (2.1 DJ)
Thanks, this was where I'd heard that most off the shelf octane boosters only deliver a fraction of a RON https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=167408 yep, that fuelexpert.co.za link gives a great write up, I'm literally going to carry my timing gun and a bottle of the NF when I'm o...

Re: Advice on adjusting distributor for 95 octane (2.1 DJ)
Thanks, just as a sanity check for me..... (let me know if this isn't right) Engine is currently set for 10 degrees BTDC (for 98 octane in the UK). 95 Octane pre-ignites more easily (ie. using it increases the engine's chance of knocking) So I need to retard the spark more. Rotor arm goes clockwise...

Advice on adjusting distributor for 95 octane (2.1 DJ)
Hi there, I'm currently in Ireland, arrived into Dublin on a ferry 2 weeks ago, and have just come out of the isolation and noticed there is nothing above 95 octane in Ireland. This has been the case since 2017 and we have a 2 week tour ahead of us, visiting family :( After looking into it the octan...
