Revamping the interior of our 1981 Westy.
I've spent all winter sewing, sawing, drilling and glueing to give Betsy's interior a new look. No longer is she a garden shed on wheels. All the wood work was in good condition so it was mostly working on soft furnishings and door panels. Thought i would share the before and after photos in case it...

Need a gear stick miracle
Betsy's gear stick has snapped off. This is the second time. Last time (Christmas eve!) it was welded back on, just a bit shorter. Well that hasn't lasted. So, is it true that you can't get the right gear sticks for love nor money? Weird thing is that both times that the gear stick has snapped off w...

Re: smell of fuel in the cab area
I was recommended to never fill the tank but run half full, as the breather vents into the cab (or some such thing I can half remember). We had the fuel tank replaced (rust) new neck, new sender and still have a smell so think there might be some truth in this.

Gas strut (tailgate) sick of this 'easy' job
So sick of this 'easy ' job of replacing gas struts on my tailgate. "Fits all T25" gas struts that I ordered have been testing my patience. I guess we are discovering that Betsy is 'non-spec' for small details and large. 35 years of pesky meddling owners I guess ;-) To start with I had no ...

Re: Westy Fridge - keep, chuck or sell?
Unreliable? Says who? Absorption fridges are the most reliable fridges you can get!!! No moving parts. Usually gas/12v/230v. Sometimes just gas/12v. ah ha! well that's what happens when newbies do research! Thanks, that makes me feel better about spending the money on the inspection at least and ma...

Re: Westy Fridge - keep, chuck or sell?
Have you plugged it in yet to see if it works? It will probably take a couple of hours to cool down. Connect the electric hook up pop a thermometer in there and see what happens. If it doesn't work follow the advice above! PS you will always need a fridge when camping! Its gas powered and i read th...

Westy Fridge - keep, chuck or sell?
Hi, i'm about to put Betsy, our 'new' 1980 Westy in for an appliances check & service. The original Stove, Fridge, heater and sink have been all been turned off and unused for 10 years. Certainly want the stove and sink running and safe. Going to ignore the heater. But what about the 35 yr old f...
