Re: Are these rock 'n roll hinges?
Look identical to r&r hinges that I fitted in my sprinter years ago. They work perfectly alright. Maybe realign the boards but I guess whoever fitted them looked at them carefully.

Buying an AHU Engine. What to look for.
A bit late this but I'm going to look at an AHU engine in a Mk3 Golf tomorrow. It has about 100k on it whch is born out by its MOT history. Apart from smoke issues and general noise is there anything I should be on the lookout for. It's still in the car so can be seen/heard running. I bought my curr...

Re: Gear selection
Looks like you're probably not a million miles from me (Oswestry). I had a similar, but maybe not so severe, problem last week which I traced (thanks to advice from Aidan) to a missing nylon tip on the front selector fork. Seemingly insignificant but it was transformed by the addition of a new one. ...

Re: AAZ Timing belt kit
Think I may have answered my own question!!
Looks like the timing belts are identical and if I can ascertain which tensioner is on it I can order one of those.
Stand down everyone!!

AAZ Timing belt kit
I feel that my truck needs a new timing belt soon but two kits are listed, depending on engine number. Does anyone know if there are major differences e.g. are the belts the same but tensioners different etc. I have tried to find the engine number but it is very hard to get to and looking on an old ...

Re: Diesel leak from tank
Just to draw this to a close.... A visit to Aidan (he's only 10 miles away) and we(he) sorted an original,well-used sender which only had surface corrosion. He took it to bits, cleaned it up and tested it and all looked good. Removing the damaged one from the Doka involved putting it on ramps under...

Re: Diesel leak from tank
It looks like it's leaking on both sides of the tank!! On the filler side there is seepage around the seal which may also indicate a corroded filler pipe. Given the cost of a new steel filler pipe I might just have a word with a friendly welder to tidy it up. The seal is no problem. On the left side...

Re: Diesel leak from tank
Brilliant! Thanks Aidan. That at least gives me a starting point. The diagram certainly tallies with what I see on the vehicle. I may be imagining it but I get a sense that it leaks mainly when the rear of the truck is raised up. There is a tiny drip when I have the rear wheels on ramps but when I d...

Diesel leak from tank
Doka syncro LHD. I've noticed a small leak which is dripping down on the left hand side so opposite the fuel filler. Is it possible that a seepage from the seal on the fuel filler pipe could travel that far? I suspect not but have to consider it. Has anybody had a similar experience and what was th...

vibration
I recently replaced all 4 rear cv joints and when I took the truck for a test drive all was good until we got to about 45mph when a rumbling/vibration sound started up. I put it down to new cv joints bedding in and, having just done the fronts cvs (syncro) took it for a good spin and it's still the...

clutch
I have asked a question on the alternative engine site but really my query is not specific to my AAZ. My gearbox will be with Aidan soon for some work and we were discussing vibration I get when engaging the clutch at low revs. My Doka is used extensively for delivering logs with a trailer on as wel...

DMF clutch on an AAZ?
My gearbox is going to Aidan’s for some tlc next month and thought was to get him to change the shaft so that I can fit a dual mass flywheel clutch. It seems a simple enough operation and would hopefully make my transmission smoother. Has anyone tried this with an AAZ engine? If so any pitfalls? T...

Re: AAZ pump on a TDI engine???
Thanks Aidan.
That makes sense. I do like the simplicity of a non ECU set up but clearly mixing the two isn’t the way forward.
What is mTDI? Is that essentially what I am thinking of but with the correct bits??!

AAZ pump on a TDI engine???
Just thinking outside of the box. I have a recon diesel pump off a spare AAZ engine and was musing as to whether it would bolt straight on to an early TDI engine. The AAZs seem to be getting rarer and I guess that my worn out spare engine (low compression)may be too costly to refurbish. Any thoughts...

Re: alternator light not working
As suggested the blue wire had come adrift. Eventually found the correct connection and red light comes on then goes out as it should. Only additional question: where does the red/black wire which is lying next to the blue one go as it is also disconnected? On the digram it just goes to the alternat...
