Re: Tips for re-fitting driveshafts

Thanks all for your replies, extremely helpful.

A job for the week ahead, so I'll let you know how I get on. Then I should be MOT ready for the week after, if there is anyone around to do it for me.....

Plasticene is a really good shout thanks.

Re: Tips for re-fitting driveshafts

Hi, As part of MOT prep I have needed to remove my nearside driveshaft and replace the CV boots. I'm finding it quite challenging to re-mount outer driveshaft! It's all greased up with new bolts and washers, but I'm finding the combination of marrying it up and driving the bolts home very challengi...

Re: Split main coolant pipe

This is the hose that doesn't appear to have the lip inside prevent a good seal: https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/engine/petrol/watercooled-engine-wbx/cooling-system/coolant-hose-t3-wbx-early-upper-right.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Have asked Brickwerks if this...

Re: Split main coolant pipe

You've bought the correct ones I hope? I'm pretty sure there are 2 different diameters, early metal are smaller than later plastic if I recall. Sorry just made it back up to the van after a couple of weeks. Yes I believe so but with it being an '85 van occasionally there appear to be late parts. I'...

Re: Split main coolant pipe

Can you cut the pipe back and replace the damaged bit, all you need is a short length of metal pipe the same diameter as the existing plastic, a short piece of rubber pipe and 4 hose clips. I did this on mine for years until I swapped them out for stainless. I've bitten the bullet in the end and ju...

Re: Split main coolant pipe

You can get decent results with chemical metal - I have repaired a cylinder head on a compressor this way, so let's call that 7+ bar, compared to a max 1.5 bar in a coolant system. As the temperature you are dealing with is low, the fast setting variety should be up to the job - I suggest that you ...

You are quite right. Epoxy bubbled and split when the van made it up to temperature. I can't seem to move the pipe far enough in to cover the split.

Split main coolant pipe

I have just found a hairline split in one of the main coolant pipes. When the system is under pressure there is a considerable leak and the coolent temperature light is flashing. We're due away in a few days and I wanted to check views on a temporary fix for a few weeks before replacing it. The spli...

Re: Trouble bleeding clutch / replacing clutch cylinder slave

How was the 10 week old baby involved in all of this ? I hope you wasnt using it to wedge the pedal down ! Whats wrong with just a piece of wood. :? I had him on the bleed nipple :D - No - it feels like a standard excuse when you're trying to fit an hour in first thing in the morning, when you've b...

Re: Trouble bleeding clutch / replacing clutch cylinder slave

So you're all going to really like this, and I feel incredibly stupid (I blame this on my 10 week old baby entirely rather than my own stupidity...) but these reason this has been so difficult is I have been topping up the reservoir with gear oil rather than dot4..... My only feeble excuse is the co...

Re: Trouble bleeding clutch / replacing clutch cylinder slave

Thanks for all of the responses! Yes, me and friend had a couple of efforts in the week (albeit pretty early in the morning and therefore not fully functioning), but without any joy. Today however, I went back through the new pipework and the I think the problem was I had over-tightened the coupling...

Re: Trouble bleeding clutch / replacing clutch cylinder slave

have you checked to see if the bleed nipple is blocked ? sorry if it sounds like a silly question lol No silly questions bearing mind how silly I feel at the moment! Yes had the bleed nipple right out and back in again (put the syringe directly back in) when it was out could you blow though it ? ,,...

No, can check that, but the cylinder slave is new. The set up is new from the slave back to halfway along the rigid pipework.
